how could you afford to go to uni later in life?

I live in the UK, and I'm 18 and going to uni. my parents will pay for my accommodation, and I don't have to pay the fees up front. but how would a person going to uni later in life be able to afford accommodation? I mean you wouldn't have time to work enough hours to earn enough to pay for accommodation

Having a degree is so important now because of the recession world wide, that one can hide from its effects by going to college. While you are there one does research on available careers and/or jobs.

To give you an example when I decided to get a bachelor's degree, I did it to find some kind of job. I would for a small company trying to sell windows and doors. I did that for awhile and I didn't like that so I enlisted in the Army Reserves. I received training for four months then I was sent to California. Then, I liked the weather and the palm trees. After I served my time in the miliary, I was mustered out and stayed in California. I met a girl and went to teaching once again. We got married and I took a job as a principal and a teacher. I decided I did not like that principal teaching so I went to get and MA degree followed by my doctorate in Education. Then I went to the Education Department in California for two years. After that I took a job as a college professor. It was a job that I loved and I stayed with that.

Now to summarize, I changed jobs a lot. I always tried to move up in salary with a basis in teaching to fall back on. I could do that because I started my real education with a bachelor's degree. You could start that path for yourself with a diploma from an English college. Look to your future, have a plan A and a plan B start out by going to college for your diploma. Good luck.

Source(s): I was a college professor of education at four universities in three states and the District of Columbia. I taught teachers about education, schools, students, and other teachers.

Not everyone who goes to University later in life wants accommodation

they generally have a home of their own and a family and wouldn't want to move

I took a degree at 20 and another at 50, I stayed at home as I have 3 sons and a husband

Those that do move away for University, either use their savings or take out a student loan

Most mature students go to a university that's near where they already live, so they don't have to pay for accommodations. Many also go to uni part-time, so they can continue their jobs. Very few older students move away to go to uni.

Finance England offer many different loan packages and grants. Also individual university's offer many grants which are not payed back.

They basically have to rely on that and hope for getting a part time job. Most mature students I know still are in their full time jobs. Instead they take their degree part time or do a sandwich course.

You either have to have saves the cash or have someone else to support you. Its virtually impossible otherwise.
