  • I really want to do primary school teaching, despite having already applied to nursing?

I live in UK. last year, I applied to do primary teaching, and I got an offer, which I initially accepted, but then turned down just before I was due to start. I felt too young and wasn't sure if I wanted to do it, as I had changed my mind since applying. I wanted some time out to think more about what I wanted to do. I found a job in a nursing home, and decided I might as well apply to nursing, as there would be a lot of opportunities in nursing, and I thought I might as well get to uni and get a degree. I now have an unconditional offer at one of my choices. but lately I have changed my mind, and decided I would like to do primary teaching. but I would feel mad reapplying to uni for the third time next year. and I'm scared in case I change my mind again. I have an interview for nursing this week, at the same uni where I got an offer to do teacher training last year. I'm going to ask the uni if there is any chance I can change the course I have applied for to primary teaching, and mention that they offered me a place last year. I am currently volunteering in a primary school

  • what do you think of my personal statement (applying for adult nursing)?

I aspire to be an adult nurse as I would love to care for adults and see them benefit from my care. Nursing seems like a rewarding and demanding career, I have always realised this growing up with my mother as a nurse. My mother has often spoken about her job, and has inspired me to go into nursing.

I work as a health care assistant in a nursing home, caring for elderly adults with dementia. I feel that I bond well with the residents in my care and my job has given me good caring skills. It feels rewarding caring for the residents and making a difference to their and their families’ lives. I have also gained communication skills through being a health care assistant, especially overcoming communication barriers. I work in a multidisciplinary team with other health care professionals. Being of all different levels, we work as a team and each have our different duties. I look forward to further working in a multidisciplinary team in my anticipating future career as a nurse. I have Double Distinction* in Level 3 BTEC National Diploma Health and Social Care, and the units in this course that I studied have prepared me for the caring profession. I would be able to apply this valuable theory to practice in my in the future. I have already been able to apply this theory to practice in my job as a health care assistant and the placements I went on as part of my BTEC. I did placements in a primary school one afternoon a week, and as a young leader at a local Brownies pack. This shows my experience with a wide age range, and also my interpersonal skills gained from talking to groups of children. During my placement as a young leader I was sometimes asked to plan meetings, from which I developed my planning and organisation skills. My placement in the primary school gave me the opportunity to work with a child with SEN, I was able to recognise how his condition affected his learning and social skills, and support him and help him to reach his full potential. The staff in the primary school commented on my excellent performance and professionalism, and my caring attitude with the children; I was awarded commendation at college for this.

A close friend of my mum’s has a son with autism, whom I have grown up with. Seeing him growing up with autism, I have been aware from an early age how his condition has affected his socialisation, and how it brings difficulties to his life, and seen how his family care for him. I am used to the barriers in communication caused by his autism, and ways to overcome the barriers, and it feels rewarding that I have formed a relationship with him despite the limitations due to his condition. Growing up with him has made me more understanding to other adults with learning disabilities, and the difficulties in their life and socialisation that their condition causes for them.

My hobbies include street dance and drama, and I have an A Level in Drama and Theatre Studies. These interests have developed my confidence and I have performed in front of audiences of people I am not familiar with. I also have an A Level in English Language, from which I have developed my high standard of written English.

When I was in Year 13, I was appointed as student mentor at college, where my duties where to support the new Year 12 students, showing them around college and helping them to settle in. This shows that I am able to sympathise with people and support and reassure them when they are in anxious situations.

With a degree in adult nursing, there would be a wide range of opportunities available to me. I would like to further work with elderly people. Other areas that I could particularly see myself working in in the future are district nursing, health visiting, on a ward, or in Accident and Emergency department.

  • help with nursing personal statement?

  • for people with relatives that live far away, what is your Christmas day routine?

I'm 18 and still live with my parents and my sister. but apart from them, all my relatives live far away. we live in England, but my mum is from Scotland and my dad is from Northern Ireland. sometimes I do see my extended family on Christmas Day, but most Christmases it's just me, my parents and my sister. all my friends get spend their Christmas Days with their extended families, and I just get really jealous of them. I always have to make sure I spend Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year with my friends, otherwise Christmas would be a very lonely time. it's bad enough any time of year having all my extended family living far away

I would like to know if there is anyone else out their with all their extended family living far away, and what they do with their Christmas Day? just to know I am not the only one :)

  • how could you afford to go to uni later in life?

I live in the UK, and I'm 18 and going to uni. my parents will pay for my accommodation, and I don't have to pay the fees up front. but how would a person going to uni later in life be able to afford accommodation? I mean you wouldn't have time to work enough hours to earn enough to pay for accommodation

  • help! my mum's forcing me to go to uni!?

I think I know what I want to do, but I just feel so mixed up due to pressure from my mum and relatives and parents' friends. my life ambition is to be an actress, and I would love to go to drama school, but my mum would disprove of that. so looks like I'll just have to get an agent and have a 'back-up' plan to keep my mum happy. I do have an offer to go to uni in September to do primary teacher training but don't think I want to do that now. I work in a care home which I really like, but I guess I wouldn't want to do that for the rest of my life. I also want to make the most of freedom now as I've just left college, maybe go travelling. I just feel too young to jump into teacher training now a

  • What to say on a follow-up call for a job application?

I had a job interview at a kid's play area 2 days ago, and the girl who interviewed me took my number and said she would ring me the following day. That was 2 days ago and she still hadn't rang me. I think I should ring her up to follow it up, but I'm really shy and don't really know what to say

  • Primary school teacher, air hostess or health care assistant?

What's the best salary? What's the most competitive? If I was a health care assistant it would be in a nursing home. I have a place at university to study primary school teaching in September. My plan A is to be an actress, so I'm going to get an agency and want one of these careers to fall back on, which one would be most suitable? I have 6 GCSEs including English and maths and Level 3 BTEC National Diploma Health and Social Care and A Levels English Language and Drama and Theatre Studies. I have no qualifications in travel and tourism and no customer service experience, and I can only speak a little bit of French. Would working in a nursing home count as customer service experience?

  • I really want to be an actress...what do you suggest I do?

I'm 17 and from the UK, and I also sing and do street dance but acting is my main focus. I want to be in west end/broadway and on TV/films. But I wouldn't turn down good opportunities in signing, and I'd obviously have to sing and dance if were on broadway/west end. I just love performing in general really. I've just finished college where I studied A Level drama and theatre studies. I have an ensemble part in a show with a local production company at the moment. The problem is, my mum doesn't approve of my career choice. She wants me to have a plan B. If it wasn't acting, it would be teaching or nursing or something to do with caring for people. So I'm going to university in September to study primary school teaching, and I have a part time job in a nursing home. I'm also going to get an agency and join Spotlight and get involved as much as possible in performing arts opportunities. Am I doing the right thing if acting really is my dream?

  • My friend is so moody! What should I do?

Ok well I'm nearly 18 and she's just turned 16. She's my nextdoor neighbour and been friends with me and my little sister for 5 years. The thing is 50% of the time I see her she's in a good mood, 50% of the time in a bad mood! Me and my sister go to dance with her, and there she acts completely different, always sucking up to her friends there and ignoring me and my sister. Last night we were in a show, and in the afternoon we had a dress rehearsal, so between that and the show my friendship group (including my neighbour, sister, and some other girls) stayed in town and then went for a meal. The whole day our neighbour completely ignored me+my sister, and whenever I said something to her she ignored me or dictated me.she went to the toilet with the rest of our group to get ready when in th restaurant,+me+my sister stayed at the table.2 of my friends told me that our neighbour was in a mood with us+was bitching about me+my sister in the toilet,+trying to turn other people against me.I even messaged her last night to tell her I though she seemed very off with me+my sister yesterday+why?Never got a reply, despite her haven tweeted since then!I can't think of anything I've done!I'm very sensitive+really take that to offence.I guess it's because I've been bullied a lot at school in the past

  • Anyone know the name of this song?

It's really bugging me. it's fairly recent I'd say, it has fast violin music at the beginning and then it goes very upbeat and there's a woman signing something like 'if I had another songgggg to make you cryyyy.....I wish I....' And then there's a guy who goes 'PUSH IT PUSH IT....' And there's a rapping. The woman singing sounds a bit like Beyonce

I have a Blackberry on Orange, which I lost today. it's a pay monthly phone, and there's still 7 months left of the contract. I don't pay insurance for it, so is there any way I would be able to get a replacement and a new sim card and how much would I have to pay for that?

  • Should this experience put me off my chosen career?

I'm supposed to be going to university in September to do primary school teaching. I went into my old primary school a few weeks ago, and they were really nice to me and remembered me and I asked if I could come back and volunteer. They told me I would have to email the headmistress (this is a new headmistress since I left) and she never replied. My mum rang, and the headmistress rang us back (my dad answered) she said 'I'm afraid it's a NO' and when my dad asked a reason 'oh erm well we have a lot of students'. Maybe I'm really sensitive, but I was devastated about this. It's even put me off going to uni to do my teacher training. I was hoping I could back to my primary on placement when I'm at uni and apply there when I graduated. The other thing is my dream is to be an actress, but I'm planning to study to be a teacher so I have that behind me as a back-up, and go for acting opportunities at the same time. But people tell me I'm doing the wrong thing and I should go to drama school if I want to be an actress
