Why do christians pray in church or public? Can't they follow basic instructions?
Matthew chapter 3. Jesus says "don't pray aloud or in public. Don't pray to be seen to be praying. Pray in silence. Don't repeat prayers, pray in the closet, keep to the point, don't copy other people's prayer, don't pray about frivolous crap." Then he gives an example of a prayer, the lords prayer.
Now christians all go to church, stand there and recite the same pray over and over on sundays to be seen at church. They pray to win football games or wealth. Then recite the exact same prayer written one sentence after his very detailed instruction on how to pray to god.
Don't you people read your own book?

Generally, they do not. Their pastor tells them what they need to know.

The injunction against making declarations of religion in public was once concerning the intent of the declaration. The individual who prays for the sake of displaying their 'piety' earns their reward right then and there because they need others to see their 'piety' and for that reason acquire no lasting reward from it. Nevertheless, now not every act of prayer in public necessarily makes it a 'false' declaration. Many individuals pray in public on account that they're feeling very 'shut' to God at that moment (completely satisfied, vulnerable, grateful) and hence their act is their own approach of taking the time to talk to claim what they imply, like a individual who walks with the aid of the greeting card isle, sees a thank you card that is just excellent for his or her friend and buys it for them. Simply due to the fact any person else sees them buying the cardboard does not mean the act is egocentric or 'false'. Some Christians do pray to exhibit off their 'credentials' and are as a consequence rewarded for such, as stated. A quiet prayer is heard no less loudly than a very vocal prayer (aren't two sparrows bought for next to nothing...) but it is the intent and the faith of the character doing the praying that determines the validity of the act.

Jesus was talking about self-righteous, holier-than-thou pharisees who give and pray in public, making a big show of it, to be notice and be amazed at. By comparison, we are to give privately, instead of announcing it to the wide world.
If you go to a church where everyone recites the same prayer, it was probably a Caholic church. They pay no attention to God's warning about reciting memorized prayers over and over. (Holy Mary, mother of God...etc) Mary is NOT holy, she was not divine and she is not the mother of God.
Find a big happy church where Jesus is worshipped and the Bible is taught. You'll see a huge difference.
The bible does say pray without ceasing. That means, pray about (talk with God about) everything that concerns you (your kids, your job, your football performance etc.) He loves you more than you can possibly imagine. he is on YOUR side.
He will perfect all that concerns you (Ps. 138:8) so you need to share with him all that concerns you :)

find another church hun
Christians are also told to pray with each other and as a church for they can not agree in prayer if they are alone. But Prayer should not be the same thing repeated over and over.

Do you pray before meals?
Do you make the sign of the cross?
Why hide it?
"Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father"
Mt 5:16
Prayer may cause others to think about God.

Actually Matthew Chapter 3 doesn't say that. Secondly, I don't go to church. Thirdly, I don't pray for petty stuff life football games or wealth.
Your'e gonna have to try alot harder than that.

In the earliest days of Roman Catholicism, you were branded as a heretic when you claimed to have a belief in Christianity that was not dependent upon the papal Caeser. For this, it was often the case that so-called heretics were killed. Many of those heretics may well have been purely Christian believers. But, this claim would not matter to the pagan Church. They claim to make the rules. Their rules are arbitrary, however. History denotes how the Church has evolved it's stance on many of its teachings.

Matthew chapter 3 is speaking of John the baptist preparing the way for Jesus.
John the Baptist Prepares the Way 3 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”[a]
4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
The verse you are looking for is in Matthew 6
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil .’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
It means dont pray to impress others. Praying in public does not mean you are trying to impress others. Sure there are many that do that but not all people that pray in public are putting on a show
