how do you feel about kpop rap?

Ok. this is a questions ive been wondering about for a while.

I feel kpop rap is missing the point of ACTUAL rap.

I feel as if kpop entertainment companies arent giving their artists in general enough freedom to write their own music, create their own choreography, etc.

Now for kpop rappers, kpop listeners often believe that what makes up a good rapper is their tone, like if its deep or if it sounds cool or whatnot.

ITS NOT THE TONE OF A RAPPER THAT MAKES THEM GOOD.

a rapper must have lyrical ability, flow, technique, and the ability to write songs with meanings that they feel are important. An rapper cant just rap to lyrics given to them; they rap to a meaning that expresses how they feel in a certain aspect.

Thats why kpop rap sometimes annoys the crap outta me, because a kpop rap have a terrible sounding flow and cheesy lyrics, but if the rapper has an attractive tone then it apparantly makes them a good rapper. wat the hell?

even though im mainly pinpointing kpop rappers, i also believe the same for the singers and such too. Though i really like kpop music because it just sounds cool, I just wish the companies will give the artists the freedom to create their own music, so they can totally express how they feel through their music.

so wat do you guys think? do you agree? disagree?

Update:

for all of you who think im saying this about ALL korean rappers:

Im only talking about kpop. Of course i listen to drunken tiger, tasha, movement crew, and other korean mc's. Thats why im ranting only towards KPOP IDOLS, not koreans in general. its obvious that k-hip hop mc's compose and write their own stuff, and pull it off amazingly. Im just tryna point out that for all those KPOP IDOL fans who say that rappers in kpop are great are missing the point of real rap. so dont go saying i dont know my **** cuz i know wat im saying.

I personally love korean rap. I'm guessing you're talking about the mainstream kpop rappers? o.o I can kinda understand what you mean, but not all of them are like that \: at least they can make it sound good, whether or not they have the voice. And most songs in general are cheesy anyway lol.

Well I listen to Tablo/Epik High the most when I feel like listening to rap and they're amazing when it comes to the flow and they definitely have lyrical ability (: Tablo actually writes his own rap lyrics which expresses however he wants it to be.

  • K-pop idols generally do not possess the ability to compose music and/or write their own lyrics. Why would you even assume that? They're scouted for their looks and singing/dancing abilities and that's it. If being a composer was an essential factor for becoming an idol, then there would probably only be like, 2 or 3 K-pop groups in existence lol. Basically, the companies do most of the work for their stars (composing, choreographing, booking, etc.) and all they have to do in return is look pretty onstage and maintain a good image. In that sense, I wouldn't consider K-pop idols artists because they don't create anything themselves. Sounds harsh, but it's true. (Of course there are exceptions, like GD, IU, Psy, and so forth.)

Also, I'm assuming you've never heard of Swings, Epik High, Dynamic Duo, etc., because they're all amazing Korean rappers. Do you really think that the only rappers in Korea are those that are in K-pop groups?

Most of these 'K-pop rappers' were made into rappers solely due to the fact that they can't sing. It's not like they're super passionate about rapping or anything which is probably why they sound like crap.

Well when you say rap.. Are your talking about Kpop bands with a rapper? Or Korean Hip hops bands who rap? Because there is obviously a difference. In Kpop, the rapper isn't an actual rapper... They're a Kpop rapper... You're whining about this, and you don't even know what you're talking about.

    Go look up

    Epik High,

    Drunken Tiger

    Dynamic Duo/CB Mass

    Yoon Mi Rae/T/Tasha

    Sean2Slow

    Buga Kingz

    Leessang

    YDG

    G-Won (Eun Ji Won)

    Double K

    Top Bop

    Yankie

    Insane Deegie

    Ex-plicit Linez

    Dok2

    Roscoe Umali

    Mickey Eyez

    Bizzy

    MNOVA

then maybe you'll know what real Korean rap is....

    hmm... somewhat agree :/

I agree that a lot of the groups don't have expressive freedom

however, not all groups are like this

BIGBANG's G-Dragon does a lot of composing for their songs, and I think that TOP also writes his raps, also I think he has a good flow, not just a sexy tone

    just my opinion :)
