Assuming Jesus WAS eternal; could he have died?

[My question relates to the internal consistency of the Bible, not whether the Bible is accurate]

The Bible describes a three day period where Jesus was dead, but claims that god, who is Jesus, is eternal. Could an eternal being die?

Consider, to illustrate my point, Webster's definition of "eternal" as "existing at all times" or

"continued without intermission." For three days Jesus did not exist.

Update:

Alsharif -- you have quoted from The Koran. My knowledge of The Koran is limited; I will have to take your word. What about the Bible?

Update 2:

Not sure I follow, Richard.

Update 3:

Raiyden, that is a good point. The questions are related yet distinct, both difficult to understand.

Update 4:

Averell, I suspect that you lack the ability or desire to answer the question that I asked. If you care to elaborate, I will be happy to entertain your thoughts.

Update 5:

Canadian, not sure I understand the last part about Michigan. As to the discussion of Hell (likely grounded in the Apostle's Creed), I am asking about THE BIBLE. Read the question.

Update 6:

WORF, who argues that the Bible never states that Jesus is god: In John 10:30, Jesus states that "I and the Father are One," to which "the Jews" reply in line 33: "We are [] going to stone You ... because You, a mere Man, make Yourself out to be God."

Well considering God according to the Bible is a Trinity I don't understand how only 1 part dies while the other 2 don't, I've never got a good explanation for how that would work ;(

Jesus in His Humanity suffered Death. he took on Himself the universal; cause of Death, other people sins. In His Divinity He did not die, since He is Divine and Immortal. His Humanity. like that of all Men was Finite by Nature, I think, but that Finity was destroyed by His Self-Sacrifice to the Father's Will in relation to the Redemption of all Mankind. Jesus did not lose His Humanity at His resurrection but It became that which was characteristic of the original form of man as in Genesis.

His Likeness to the Yahweh is in the He is also the Word Who became Flesh.

Like you and I Jesus died a physical death. During that 3 day period He was in hell reclaiming the spiritual life that satan stole when Adam sinned. Adam had eternal life. He gave it over to satan.

Jesus came to not only teach but to regains the spiritual life for us. Jesus did not die spritually (which is eternal). In winning the fight for our eternal life and getting it back for us is what Jesus was doing when He, as you say, "did not exist"

NO WHERE in the Bible is Jesus claimed to be God......

Jesus of Nazareth was 100% man grown from Mary's own human Egg.....

The difference with Jesus of Nazareth and any other human is that the other human eggs are fertilized by the male sperm and that child becomes part of their Father and part of their mother.....

The egg that belonged to Mary was NOT fertilized by a human male but instead was fertilized by the "Living Word" of God, when God SAID "GROW", it was fertilized by the living power (energy) of God and it began to grow....PART OF IT'S MOTHER (HUMAN) - PART OF IT'S FATHER (GOD).

Jesus of Nazareth (the human) most assuredly DID die and just like the rest of us was asleep in death (Until God would call and wake him).

God did call (3 days later) and woke the sleeping (dead) Jesus, replenishing his body with (LIFE) just as he will do someday for his followers who have fallen asleep during the last 7,000 years or so....

As Jesus ascended into heaven he was changed into a spiritual being with immortality never to die again (The first fruit of the resurrected)...Jesus was given authority by God the Father over all things so now

We who are his followers will also be changed in the twinkling of an eye as we ascend, only we will be called by the resurrected Jesus (The Christ) whom all authority has been given to. Never to die again.

NOTE: ME AND MY WIFE ARE ONE, we have the same desires and plans in life and work toward that end....Just as Jesus and His Father are one......

Note it was the people who said he claimed to be God....GOD NEVER SAID IT....JESUS NEVER SAID IT...MAN SAID IT....

OH! and by the way it WAS Jesus that said...."The Father has given me authority over all things" (THE FATHER has given me.....)

not in the sense by which we define death. God defines it differently. our pulse ceases and we call it death. God defines death as the second death, the true death. yes, the immortal God put on the image of a mortal man and infiltrated mortality. His birth and death and life were all of supernatural source.

Zechariah 12:10 (YHWH is speaking) "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son."

Genesis chapter 5 reveals the gospel message within the names of the first ten generations of man.

    Adam - man

    Seth - appointed

    Enosh - mortal

    Kenan - sorrow

    Mahalalel - the blessed God

    Jared - shall come down

    Enoch - teaching

Methuselah - his death shall bring

    Lamech - the despairing

    Noah - comfort

that is proof positive this was written by God.

And for saying: "We killed the Christ, Jesus, son of Mary, who was an apostle of God;" but they neither killed nor crucified him, though it so appeared to them.

Those who disagree in the matter are only lost in doubt. They have no knowledge about it other than conjecture, for surely they did not kill him, (157)

But God raised him up (in position) and closer to Himself; and God is all-mighty and all-wise. (158)

There is not one among the people of the Book who will not believe in it before his death; and he will be a witness over them on the Day of Resurrection. (159)

Death does not necessarily mean non-existence.

Yes Jesus died but he rose again!

God did not die, but the body that he inhabited did.

    "Half man half god"

Blasphemy, Jesus Christ is wholly man and wholly God.
