  • To follow up on a previous question about abortion, how would a "rape" exemption work?

I'm an atheist and I'm pro-choice. A prior question was posted by someone who opposes abortion except in three cases, one of which is "rape."

If you agree with this position -- how would this work? I don't see how it would.

If the rapist must be convicted prior to the abortion, then the woman would likely give birth first. On the other hand, if a conviction is not required, what would prevent a woman from simply lying?

If you don't agree -- why should the government be permitted to tell a potential rape victim that she must give birth?

  • Gay marriage is bad according to Christians. Incest is OK?

The story of Lot supports incest.

In a cave, Lot’s older daughter said to the younger “Our father [is] old,” and there are no men to “come in [] us,” so let’s “cause our father to drink wine, and lie with him …” The first night, the older daughter got her father so drunk that he was not aware of her moving “down, or in her rising up.” The next night the younger daughter did the same.

  • What do you mean when you say that dreams lack meaning?

When dreams are discussed here I often see answers state that dreams are merely images experienced through the day, and are therefore without meaning.

But whenever I've heard a dream related, it's in narrative form.

Is it your position that the narrative is not part of the dream, or that the narrative has no meaning?

  • Assuming Jesus WAS eternal; could he have died?

[My question relates to the internal consistency of the Bible, not whether the Bible is accurate]

The Bible describes a three day period where Jesus was dead, but claims that god, who is Jesus, is eternal. Could an eternal being die?

Consider, to illustrate my point, Webster's definition of "eternal" as "existing at all times" or

"continued without intermission." For three days Jesus did not exist.

  • A recent question stated that “reason and logic” can lead to “faith.”?

Another stated that atheists do not value “the intelligence of the religious.” It is only fair to give both of you an opportunity to explain, logically and intelligently, why I should have “faith” that god exists.

    2. Onde você nasceu?

3.Quanto ritmo voce Esteve nsa Estados Unidos?

  • Why is religion a political consideration?

Given the fact that the establishment clause prohibits governmental endorsement of religion, why would anyone care what a governmental actor's religious views are?

Answers which reach the substance of my question are welcome.

  • Christians That Support the Death Penalty: Wasn't Jesus Unjustly Put to Death?

You believe that Jesus is God. He was sentenced to death. Do you believe that this was justified?

There have been 294 DNA exononerations in the US. So clearly innocent people have been convicted of murder. In light of this, do you believe that the death penalty is justified?

Insult me if you wish, but have the courage to explain your position.

  • Religion and Homosexuality?

I have often seen one passage from the Old Testament quoted which states that homosexuals should be stoned. Christians often state that this part of the Bible is not part of the Christian doctrine. So: why do many Christians take issue with, for example, gay marriage? Also, and most importantly, where does this position come from, if the old testament passage is no longer part of your doctrine? Thanks. Jennifer; an atheist.

  • Christians: Was it really important for you to celebrate Jesus's birthday yesterday?

First: Was it really important for you to celebrate Jesus's birthday yesterday? More so than to celebrate a friend's birthday?

Second: Exactly how old is he now (i.e., what age did he turn on this birthday)?

  • How was Jesus's death a sacrifice?

A quick followup from my last question. One point struck me: If God went through all the trouble of making himself in human form; wasn't everything which followed simply part of this plan? So, why was any part of it a "sacrifice." Someone wrote in reponse to my last question that Jesus could have chosen not to die. That is absurd beyond all comprehension -- if you believe in God (I do not), you must believe that if he made a plan he would not simply shrug his shoulders and back out of it. Right?

BQ: What was the point of God putting himself in human form, anyway?

  • I am confused about the belief re: Jesus's Power?

Christians -- you believe Jesus is God. You believe God is all powerful. Therefore, you believe the same of Jesus. So, did Jesus feel any pain while being crucified? An all powerful being would have the power to feel no pain. So, what would be the point of this pain?
