Chiang Mai hotels / apartments entertainment area.?

Hi Lads,

I asked a question about Chiang Mai a while ago and got some good replies.

A few more please.

Kicking off a trip in CM late next month and want to be based in the entertainment centre ( Is this the old town?? ).

Any recommendations regarding guest friendly hotels for the first couple of nights and even better - apartment or condo blocks to visit with a view to monthly rent.

Not looking for anything flash, just a secure one bedroom base with AC hot water.

By entertainment area I mean smack bang in the middle of the agogo / beers bars and discos.

Also any tips for bars and university student hangouts would be appreciated.

I've had a look around the internet at various sites and everything seems very spread out (looking at maps), obviously its not Bangkok but the centre seems a fair bit bigger than the main strip in Pattaya?

I would not say that there is a big go-go scene in CM - and yes, CM is somewhat spread out. For the greatest concentration of "bar scene" that would be Loi Kroh Road which runs from the moat to Chang klan & night bazaar area... I do not expect you will see many univ students in this area -

I have seen basic rooms, small but w/ac and western toilet for as low as 2000 per month but CM has plenty of rentals available in all price ranges but you will find it much more reasonable than Bkk & somewhat cheaper than Pattaya too - - though the bar scene cannot begin to copmare to what you have in Pattaya, it is still there and after your first 4 or 5 in one day, you might get a little tired - in other words, there should be enough. Enjoy.

Hi There, The scene is definitely smaller here and I am a bit passed it now. But If you check out www.rentinchiangmai.com they have few condos that are available on the monthly rent.

There were a few go-go bars not far from this hotel.

Hotel M. (Formerly Montri Hotel.) Walk to night market, across from Thapae Gate. Lots of restaurants, Seven Elevens, internet shops, etc. I have used this hotel several times. It has been okay for me.
