You're talking about WR 104 which may create a gamma ray burst along it's poles when it super novas within a million years. The spiral pattern is visible to us which means the poles seem to be aimed at us but recent calculations say that it may be 30 degrees off.

There is some concern that Betelgeuse MIGHT do that if it goes supernova sometime within the next several million years, generating a gamma ray burst, but right now its poles do not appear to be pointed at us.

Also, rads are a unit of absorbed radiation dose, not emitted. It has fallen out of use in favour of sieverts. It is inappropriate to use in this case, since no life on Earth is receiving any significant dose from such a source.
