What is your opinion on Bill Maher?
I have watched Bill Maher over the years and he a great guy. He is a great liberal who stands up for people being bullied and neglected. Bill Maher is a great american who believes in reducing the income gap by introducing just a little socialism (NOT FULL COMMUNISM). A man who has great values such as individuality, not working 24/7/365 but working enough so you can take care of yourself instead of the government (e.g. old style capitalism of the 50s and 60s), speaks his mind and tells it how it is.
The only thing i don't agree with him on is religion. I am a Christion (NOT JESUS FREAK) but i can understand why he feels the way he does coming from the church he grew up in.

i agree with you except about the religion part.
if bill maher seems extreme, it's only because the folks on the other side of the aisle are equally extreme. consider the fact that the republican committees of 39 states are now calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn SCOTUS's Lawrence v. Texas decision... and alabama's, georgia's, and south dakota's committees call for imposing the death penalty for homosexual acts....
half a dozen more state GOP committees call for outlawing abortion even in cases of ectopic (tubal) pregnancies - which are ALWAYS fatal to both the mother and the baby. "It's GOD'S WILL, let nature take it's course!" is what these religious loons are saying....
if you watched his movie "religulous", you'd understand that bill maher's problem isn't so much with religion itself, but with religious extremists seeking to impose their twisted interpretation of scripture into the government and upon society at large.
today's politically active american christians have more in common with the ayatollahs in iran and the mullahs in afghanistan than they do with any account of jesus i've ever read about. they've reinterpreted the new testament to make the pharisees the heroes.
and the scary part is that they have absolute control of one of the two major political parties here in america.

I'm a fan of his too but I can't understand why he loves Obama so much when his ideology more resembles Ron Paul, he is so right about the inconsistency's of the current republicans, they don't even follow their own policies, he does go over the top with his criticism of religion but he has cleverly pointed out numerous times at the hypocrisy of many Christians who think Jesus would have supported aggressive wars!! I think he loves his country too much to see past its criminal underlay, he should be more cynical (if that's possible) and more impartial, at least he isn't afraid to talk to his enemies and allow them to defend themselves though. Good but not great in my opinion.

I was impressed by his courage in puncturing some of the hyperbolic media platitudes after 9/11. That took balls.
Like you, I'm unimpressed by his analysis of religion. I think 'Religulous' is frivolous and fails to really grapple with the complexities of its subject. It's unlikely to change anyone's mind. And his views on Israel are pretty ill-considered, even by the standards of American punditry.

The problem with Faith in any religion is that it requires people to give in to it and to chastise those who don't . Any Schema that does not allow ideas to evolve with the times only holds us back. The fact is faith is required by many of us just to get up in the morning cus the idea of dying and having no afterlife
is to much for most to bare.
His main bone of contention is that religion as a whole as done much more harm than good people kill for it, yes their are good points and people in religion ( Education and rule of law) dating back to the most primitive. but when all is said and done religion is another boundary that divides us.
I'm not religious myself and that's why i don't care if someone prays to a tin of mushroom soup so long as it does no command of it flock to kill in it's name like the rest do.
Also think of this the only difference between us and our closet relatives the apes is a 2% deviation in our DNA now try to imagine a being just 20% higher than us. We would not even recognize it
let alone communicate with it. That's the crux of it right there that people think they are special enough to talk to God and that he talks back. The idea is not just intellectually laughable it is morally reprehensible that this falsehood could be allowed to propagate .
I can't say for certain that there is no God but i can say this He is to us as we are to germs
and as for an eternal afterlife i only know that we fear the dark for a reason because in our hearts we know it will claim us.
p.s. You Hardcore Tea bag'n Republicans suck and blow

I like him. He's a funny guy. Didn't like so much the million he gave to Obama, being a Paul supporter, as I am. 1 question. How can you disagree with him on religion? All he says is he doesn't know. You disagree that he doesn't know. Makes no sense.

A loser who realized he could make a huge profit by pandering to angry, naive people. Get them riled up and tell them their problems are not their fault because of the big bad Republicans, then watch the cash roll in.

Bill Maher is a contemptible shred of humanity who is wrong about everything--especially religion.
He is really just a comedian, and he fails at that--he's not funny, just laughable.

He is rude and obnoxious, i used to watch him occasionally but after the things he said about two women running for office i stopped paying any attention to the guy. He makes me sick just looking at him now.

He's a self-righteous, know-it-all, judgmental prick who isn't even bright enough to know he's a hypocrite.
"just a little [more] socialism," you mean. We have enough already.
