For a bit of a laugh my wife and I counted how many brand new cars we have had individually since we got married in 1976 and it amounted to 24. It would amaze me how much money we must have lost in depreciation and I now believe it is better to buy a 1 year old car as long as you can negotiate the right deal.

    Yes.

I've owned 4 cars, and the last three have been new. One in 1997, one in 2003 and one in 2010.

As you can see, I don't change my car often - by buying new I get a car that hasn't been abused so will last.

twice and both the payments lasted longer than the car

Source(s): Paying thru the nose on insurance and having lost equity the moment I drove them off the lot, that and paying insurance (BIG time)

If you are thinking of 'buying' a new car, look at leasing. Rates are so much better than they were several years ago when I last looked into it - especially if you are self-employed or vat registered.

Yes several new and used but what is more interesting is how is that information going to help you one tiny bit?
