Doctor Who, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Opinions?

What did we all think of it then? I liked Mitchell & Webb doing the voices of the camp robots, and the Triceratops acting like a dog, licking faces, wagging its tail and chasing after golf balls, and Mark Williams as Rory's dad. With those three in the episode, it was always going to be hilarious.

Update:

@ iggy: I thought of the T-rex in Night at the Museum as well. An excellent, if silly, movie.

This post will contain some spoilers. If you are yet to see the episode, don't read it and then send me hatemail for posting spoilers.

Hilarious and light hearted. I loved the dinosaurs, the CGI on them was brilliant. The combination of real prop and CGI triceratops was amazing, and the robot suits not being CGI (I think) made it that much more realistic.

The comedy levels on this episode were bang on, which surprised me. I had this episode down as worst of the season, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found I enjoyed a much larger portion of this episode than asylum of the daleks. However, I don't have the inclination to watch it on iPlayer again soon, I feel like it was a skin deep episode with not much ''understory'' to give, unlike the mysterious appearance of Jenna Louise-Coleman 5 episodes earlier than I was expecting.

Mitchell and Webb are quite frankly the most irritating and childish voices of the comedy world. I hate them. And that is precisely why they are so perfect in their role as tantrumming, cross wired robots. I did chuckle a few times along with their silly jokes mind you :)

The triceratops reminded me a lot of the skeleton Tyrannosaurus from ''Night at the museum", who displayed a lot of dog behaviour in a comic way. I loved (I've already said) the riding away on his back scene, but I think his death should have provoked a far larger effect on the doctor than he did.

On the down side, the story was far too complex for the sake of being complex - the silurian plot needed to be expanded or removed because it was skipped over as a 2 minute ''reason why everything happened'' thing. The acting by Nefertiti's character was mediocre, although one could argue a queen would be reserved in her mannerisms.

I hope that the Doctor is affected by blowing up solomon in future episodes, because that was very uncharacteristic. Perhaps we will see some ruthless doctor shining through the outer shell again, like the timelord victorious in the waters of mars. High hopes for the next episode judging from the information I've seen so far.

personally, i thought it was awful. the plot was pretty weak, especially compared to the previous episode. and the Doctor mercilessly killing Solomon at the end...I know it's the 11th Doctor, who seems to have much less compassion than Ten did (because when Nine regenerated into Ten he was so heavily influenced by his love for gentle, peaceful, everyone-deserves-a-chance Rose), but even then it was so ridiculously out of character. Was not impressed...

I liked the Triceratops, and the Robots, but I thought that the Triceratops dying would have hurt the doctor more.

I also hated that Rory and Amy were together for all of five minutes, if that. I would have thought they'd have much more time together, considering they now only have three episodes left before they leave.

Another issue I have with this whole series, not just this episode, is the speed at which time passes. Throughout almost every season, time back on Earth has run relative to real time. but by now, almost three years has passed since the end of season 6. and it also doesn't make sense, because Rory says he is thirty-one. but that can't be true. in 2011, it had been 14 years since Amelia had met the Doctor, when she was age seven. that means that going into season 6, Amy was 21. so we factor in the two years that happened between The Wedding of River Song and The Widow, the Witch and the Wardrobe. that makes her 23. plus the 8 months that are covered in Pond Life: somewhere between 23/24. plus the ten months mentioned in the latest episode: 24 going on 25. that's Amy's age, and in the Let's Kill Hitler flashbacks, it is implied that Rory is younger than Amy. that makes him at absolute most 25 years old. not thirty one... sorry Moffat, but wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey doesn't explain that! Maybe the Doctor can age nearly a hundred years in the space of a few days, but not Rory... (unless you believe this ridiculous RoryistheMaster theory).

the final thing that annoyed me was the fact that nothing came of the ending of Pond Life. if you watch Pond Life part 5 closely, you see that the clothes Amy and Rory are wearing in the scene where Amy "kicks Rory out" are identical to the clothes they are wearing as they return home and Amy lets Rory come back to him. this implies that the fight we see in Pond Life occurs AFTER Asylum of the Daleks. this is backed up by the fact that when Amy is home alone and says aloud "We need you, Raggedy Man...I need you" she is wearing the same clothes she is wearing in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. so Pond Life Part 5 happened between episodes 1 and 2... this can't be a simple coincidence! but it was never brought up. seems like sloppy filming, if you ask me..shows don't usually use the same costumes twice, or at least not that close together. plus it is exactly the kind of hint that Moffat would drop for people to notice and figure out his plot twists, if they looked hard enough.

Disappointing episode, if you ask me! Out of character script, rather straightforward and uninteresting plot, incontinuity... it's not looking good for the Ponds' final episodes!

well it was entertaining, but i seemed to spent the time trying to remember where i had seen something similar in different films.

next weeks seems a bit unusual, doctor who meets westworld.
