I don't think an iPhone would be a good phone to get. For some it is easy to know how work it and then some just don't know. iPhone's have a lot of extra monthly fees and the fees are like $30-$60 a month plus whatever plan you have. My grandparents are in their late 60s & they just have the pay as you go cell phones or they get a free cell phone. I think my grandpa has a Samsung one from AT&T.

My husband and I both have TracFones a newer version with a calendar, pictures and other things. It cost less than $25.00. I need to get time cards but I have so many minutes stored up it's unbelievable. I love mine and it's really easy to operate. I don't give out the number because it's only used for emergencies when on the road or trying to find my lost hubby in a store. I really like the calendar part because if I'm at a doctor's office or needing to make an appointment I can check to see if I have any conflicting dates and times.

We still have our home phone through the computer ... less expensive.

I've had a few in my life. Right now I have a Verizon phone. My daughter is on a plan, I don't know how much she pays for hers, but she added another phone and gave it to me. It only costs me $10 a month. She has everything on it though. Internet, GPS, games. My phone is simple to use, and have none of what she has, which is fine with me. If your area has a local phone company, like ours does, then check into that. We have Cricket. The calls are unlimited and you can call anywhere in the continental USA. The thing is that you can only call from the areas they cover. Here Cricket covers all of the Metropolitan Phoenix areas which includes a lot of our cities surrounding Phoenix. Anyway, I had that and only paid $35 a month. What I like about it is that you always pay ahead so you know your bill is always the same. Good luck.

    I don't have one.

But a client of mine just got Consumer Cellular--sold at Radio Shack. They have a $10 per month plan. It includes NO minutes, but it is to be an emergency phone, really. It's 25 cents per minute.

For $15 you can get 100 minutes.

If you have a home phone & do not need the phone for work, I think it's a very good deal.

And the great thing is you are not stuck to a contract. You can deactiviate & reactivate w/o any fees. And you can change your plan month-to-month w/o any fees.

Like, if you were going traveling & you wanted to add minutes--just in case something happens--you could bump up to the $15 per month plan, then you could bump it back down to the $10 plan when you got home--with no fees.

Yes - both my wife & I have had cell phones for the last 10 yrs. Originally - I bought her a cell phone when I retired for her emergencies when she was still driving to work and i had taken a trip. Most are quite easy to use after a quick tutorial. It has become very convenient over the yrs for quick contact between us when on different chores. Now we are behind in technology since neither of us has a smart phone as of yet.

I have a Virgin Mobile cell phone, I pay $30.00 a month for 1500 minutes, 500 messages. For me, this equals unlimited as I never use more than 800 minutes a month. I talk as long as I want to my daughter, sister, Mom, and what ever government agencies I am trying to stay in contact with.

My phone cost $15.00, it is very easy to use, and if I lose it I just buy another one on line or in the store. I use the low pay plan, NO CONTRACT, I pay once a month, they remind me with a text message if I forget to pay.

My daughter has offered to get me a fancy phone, I know already that I only use the basics, i want to keep it simple.

iphone screens work by heat transfer, so if your fingers often feel cold (as seniors and anyone with circulation/neuro conditions would experience) it may get frustrating for you to use. I know I get frustrated at supermarket self-serve checkout screens when my touch is not acknowledged by it because my hands are cold.

Also the screens can look dirty with finger prints.

I have a flip phone so my keypad is locked when it is closed. People I know who have open screen phones find that their phones 'make phone calls of their own accord to people in its phonebook' while the phones are in their pocket or bag. The screens/keypads constantly being touched/rubbed by clothing causes the phones to dial. I have often received calls from people and just heard a rubbing sound of someone walking and muffled voices.

Sometimes while using the touch screen phones - if you touch the screen accidentally it can 'change the page' that you were on. This is very frustrating.

Both and each single month when I get my home mobilephone bill, I ask myself why. I suppose three persons have the quantity. I consider I've made and acquired (whole of the two collectively, intellect you) 4 calls on it within the last 6 months. However nonetheless...I hold it. Why? I don't know...Need to be some deep seated insecurity, lol, some as yet undiagnosed, unnatural emotional attachment to landline telephones? Yeah...Phonaphobic separation ailment or whatever...Hmmm...Surprise if it will qualify me as critically disturbed enough to ditch gainful employment and acquire a determine or something? Lol...Nah, likely no longer, so i guess i'll just hold paying a sincerely useless invoice each month except???

My phone is probably 8 years old. I only use it in emergencies and I don't give the number out. I pay $19 a month and I have unlimited calls, free long distance. I know if I get a new phone I won't get that kind of a deal so I stick with the old one. Hey, it works.
