A question for those who make home brew (beer)?
I will be brewing my first batch soon. would just want to ask the brewer's here if it's okay to use plastic carboy in the process. In my area, I can't seem to find a carboy made of glass. A little help please.

Many home brewers use plastic pails for fermentation and as a secondary.
They're less expensive and safer to handle than glass.
Plastic does have drawbacks.
Interior scratches can harbor bacteria making them harder to clean and sanitize.
The material is porous to oxygen so they're not good for bulk aging.
Otherwise...they're perfect for making tasty home brew.

The plastic carboy is fine unless you are going to be lagering for a long time. Oxygen can get through very slowly. I don't remember how long until it becomes an issue but, its fine for ales for sure. Probably okay for a typical lager too.

For ale, it's fine. Just wash and sanitize it thoroughly before using. You can even use plastic (paint) buckets with lids- I used a plastic bucket for my first 5 batches of cider and 2 of beer. Don't bother trying to lager anything with plastic, though.
Glass is definitely better, but plastic will work. Just keep it in a dark spot while it's fermenting (or cover it securely with a blanket or towel to block out light).

clean that plastic real good before anything. but if u have it sit for an extended period of time, air will eventually seep through the plastic, air is the enemy...

Absolutely not OK.
I visit Muslim countries alot - home made beer ALWAYS gives you nasty headaches, etc.
Try making wine instead !! It's VERY VERY easier, comes out FANTASTIC, is vere cheap, and very useful for your body - purifies the blood like nothing else.
I'll give you fantastic recepies if you like - just Email me.
