Why Don't People Use Oxygen Bottles on Engines?
It seems to me that oxygen is a far superior oxidizer compared to nitrous oxide. Why don't people use liquid oxygen bottles in high performance racers? I know, it's a high explosive, but handled correctly, LOX is no more dangerous than N2O. Would it turn any block into a bomb or something?
LOX certainly IS a high explosive, but that's beside the point. Why not use O2 instead of N2O? I'm assuming that it's because there is no block made that could withstand the pressures generated.
OK, smarty. I'm not saying you have to use LOX onboard. I'm saying it's the most efficient way to store it, not use it. My grandmother uses bottled oxygen under pressure in order to breathe properly. Why not use that stuff instead of N2O? It can't have any more pressure than a N2O bottle. @3000 psi. Pressurized oxygen is NOT a high explosive. Just damn bad in fires, should they occur. I think I'm right and that they can't make a block that can withstand the combustion pressure of @100% oxygen. The damn thing would be a bomb, not a car.

If pure oxygen worked better than nitrous, then people would be using it. I'm sure there's a scientific reason why they don't. I believe it has something to do with the way it breaks down. Oxygen is not an explosive, it is an accelerant. There's a difference.
