is there a solid, reliable, M1911 thats under $800?
I have a year to decide what i want for a first handgun, and i already know how 1911's arnt entirely great for beginners because of their actions. But im just curious as its something id like to keep in mind for a first handgun and so i was just wondering if there exists a solid m1911 that lives up to its revolutionary reliability for 800 bucks or less? Any links will be greately appreciated thank you.
Also, if there exists one with an underbarrel picitinny rail for that price as well itd be handy to know as it would also serve as a night stand gun and would be nice if i could attatch a flashlight
Edit: forgot to mention it would be a full size 5" barrel 1911 that id want because i dont need to deep conceal it for when i carry (wisconsins open carry is permitless (: ) also @tex, thats actually not too bad, i would be willing to spend 900 as a maximum limit and if its a sig, for 850-900 id be worth it for sure.

go with the rock island. very basic, but you can accessorize with the extra $$$. as a first weapon, you should learn about it, like buying a bone stock car, then build it the way you like. the taurus is nice, springfields are awesome, so are kimbers and Les Baer, but you dont learn anything from buying them done outright. its nice to know how and why it works, as well as being able to diagnose any malfunction.
and as far as durability goes, the US carried those babies from 1911, to now in some divisions. they're unstoppable.

The only thing that comes to mind is the Taurus 1911. Not really a fan of Taurus but apparently it gotten good reviews.
However if you want to step away from the 1911s, perhaps go with a Glock 21 or something along that line. Meets your requirement of being less than 800 bucks and it's very reliable and perfect for beginners. It's at most 600 bucks and you can get 200 worth of ammo to shoot!

You can come darn close. I bought a Sig 1911 Nitron Carry from Buds Gun Shop for $850. I really really really like this gun so much I sold my Les Baer, which cost almost twice as much.

Russ in Nova beat be to it. Maybe it was just luck that I bought a Rock River 45 that was above most 45's, but I had one that would beat the one that I would fire in competition while on the state rifle and pistol team.
