im a late teen, focusing on pursuing a career in health care and to a lesser extent, writing. i have a passion for video games but know more about firearms and science.

  • M&P 40 full size: anything i should know?

Just aquired a used m&p 40 with night sights, 5 mags and a cheap OWB holster for 550 bucks.

So far my impressions are only from racking the slide, holding it, and dropping the mag and its simply incredible. Have yet to fire it but since it didnt come with a manual my questions (besides field stripping as ive watched enough you tube to know how to do that) i know i could look elsewhere but im just curious to hear some personal experience advice/info from anyone who owns this firearm as well as any warnings.

Btw the night sights are trijicon and are the non-recharge type i believe.

    Thanks.

  • can my laptop's GTX 670MX run crysis 1 smoothly?

Just bought a gaming laptop and it plays wonderfully (even manages to make crysis 3 hold its own) but im just wondering if my laptop (Asus G75VX) could run the original crysis on high or very high at at least 30 fps (or more with some custom settings).

    Specs are:

    i7 3630QM

    GTX 670MX 3GB DDR5

    8GB 1600 DDR3

  • any good prebuilt gaming pc's?

Ive toyed with the idea of building one myself but with my limited knowledge and the gamble id be taking with expensive parts i decided against it. (Plz dont try to suggest i build one myself as im not going to do that).

Ive been looking at this pre built pc (has good specs i think but ill be upgrading the graphics card most certainly as the 620 it comes with sucks)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

I will only be using it for gaming, surfing the web, and writing a few short stories. But it will be primarily a gaming rig and im wondering if anyone can either let me know about the reliability of this particular pc or suggest other good prebuilt pc's that use either 8 core amd processors or i3/i5 processors for 800 or less.

I care more about the processor than the gpu because id rather upgrade my gpu than my cpu

  • could this setup play crysis 2 or 3 on "high"?

I have an hd tv thats 1920x1080p and once i get my tax return im gonna be building a rig that can(hopefully) make sense.

    .cpu - i5 3570k (3.8ghz turbo)

    Gpu - nivida gtx 550 ti ddr5

    Ram - 8gb (2x4gb) ddr3

    Psu- 650w

OS - windows 7 home edition

(Obviously not all specs but for this questions purpose im only listing what i have that affects the graphical abilities)

Just wondering if this setup could run crysis 2 or 3 @ 1080p 60fps on dx11 at high settings (or mostly high with a few tweaked settings, i also wouldnt mind 40-50fps either (still better than console which i prefer as i currently only game on console but am getting graphics starved)

    Thank you

  • gallery of guns/FFL question?

So i just ordered a field/security mossberg off of gallery of guns (i had requested that i be notified through email when they get em back in stock) so i got the email, filled out the required questions and payed the deposit.

The FFL i chose was the closest one to me that was cheapest, i called them to notify of my purchase but got their voicemail and i left a message. I went to their website and found out that they are closed till the 31st.

My question is, will the shotgun i ordered from gallery of guns still be available to be shipped to the FFL i chose in a few days even though its now out of stock on gallery of guns' website?

Also, ive never done an FFL transaction before and is the reason im asking.

    Thank you

  • handgun ffl transfer age restriction law?

Am i the only one who considers the portion of firearms law "must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun from an ffl dealer" a complete joke? And not just that but ice heard of military veterans who were done with service before 21 and were more trained in the safe handling and proper use of handguns than some people are in there 40's. (Was in gander the other day and watched a 40 year old man with his son looking at a compact m1911 clone and obviously had no idea what he was doing but i, bring 20, cant evrn touch one without the salesman losing his job but actually know how to handle and operate one safely and effectively)

So my question is, was there an actual REASON for this law or is it truely just one of those pointless laws that claim to be for the better but really just inhibit a right that should be granted in full upon the reaching of legal adulthood at age 18 anf not just half of it (long guns)

I AM aware of private sales not requiring the buyer to be 21, and just 18 and older, so this is truely just a ffl question. I live in wisconsin however so im not sure if id be able to buy one privately as our laws here, while more fair than some states, are still kinda all over the place unless someone can prove me wrong about this state.

  • does gander mountain overcharge for their firearms?

I just went in there yesterday to buy a new shotgun and the price for it was nearly 70 bucks over a competitor. This isnt a rant, as i both accepted that they priced it that high and spent my money somewhere else, and am just curious if this is how they run their store prices everywhere or if this is just a wisconsin thing.

Ive even seen a beretta 92fs inox for sale at their store for $880, which if im not mistaken is 80 bucks over msrp.

  • does anyone have experience with the mossberg 500 grand slam turkey shotgun?

Prolly gonna sell my 590 sp 9 shot soon cause id like to hunt with a shotgun (my buddy has some good swampland and forrest property up north) but dont want to give up a home defense/fun shooting gun (which it would seem the 20" vent rib barrel on this should be perfect for) if i can also get some info about the camo paint job as far as reliability and longterm wear goes. Thanks!

  • anyone around madison WI have experience with north bristol sportsman club?

Last week i bought a Savage Arms model 111 chambered in .30-06 and didnt get the chance to sight it in last week. Tomarrow im going to the range (ive never been to any range before either), specifically north bristol sportsman club and im curious if anyone has had any experience on their ranges? This is really just strict curiosity cause i already know what to bring (btw i have a gun sock but not a case for my rifle, would that be an issue?) But if i could get some wisconsin folks who have been there before toanswer thatd be great. Thank you and Happy Gun Deer Season!

  • open carry in wisconsin?

Ok, so, ive known for nearly 5 years now that wisconsin has open carry but only recently i was wondering something. I know certain states allow you to carry a long gun (rifle or shotgun) slung round your shoulder as well as a handgun, but im just curious if that applies to wisconsin?

I live slightly north of madison so its more in the blue part of the state im curious about as opposed to the northern regions of wisconsin where more dangerous animals are and id be stupid to be in non-heavily populated areas without some form of firearm to protect against coyotes and bears.

My shotgun is a mossberg 590 sp 9 shot if that makes a difference as it appears more ASSAULTY than a 500 pump even though a .22 holds more ammo and fires faster (its all about looks i tell ya!)

Btw im 20 years old, and the legal owner of the shotgun, so would me not being 21 also make a difference? Or is it pretty much, "as long as i own the firearm legally, and am over 18 (being its a long gun) i can legally open carry it?

I apoligize if there are any gramatical errors as im on my android and its exceedingly annoying to try and edit on one.

  • is there a solid, reliable, M1911 thats under $800?

I have a year to decide what i want for a first handgun, and i already know how 1911's arnt entirely great for beginners because of their actions. But im just curious as its something id like to keep in mind for a first handgun and so i was just wondering if there exists a solid m1911 that lives up to its revolutionary reliability for 800 bucks or less? Any links will be greately appreciated thank you.

Also, if there exists one with an underbarrel picitinny rail for that price as well itd be handy to know as it would also serve as a night stand gun and would be nice if i could attatch a flashlight

  • how bad is the .44 magnum in regards to recoil?

Might get the chance to shoot one soon, i own a 12 gauge shotgun and have fired 3" turkey loads out of it before i put a recoil reducing but pad on it and didnt have much trouble with that, but given a revolver's design imparts almost all the recoil into the shooter, im just curious how rediculous the recoil is. If all goes well i might even consider a used s&w 629 for my first handgun (as i have a year till i can legally own one) but id prolly end up using .44 special ammo for home and open carry/concealed carry in summer and winter respectively, only using .44 magnum for when im up north or at the range.

(Im also 5'7" and 134 pounds if that makes a difference)

  • could a planet be destroyed this way?

Could a particle beam-type weapon, given enough power and mounted on a spacecraft, reduce a planet the size of earth or larger to several massive peices? Obviously it would come back together under the force of gravity, but when those massive chunks of planet that are thousands of miles across come back together how would that affect the habitability of said planet as well? (I cant imagine id be favorable in the least if it were once habitable) any educated answers are welcomed as this is reasearch for a book. Thank you

  • can u apply blueing urself to a firearm?

Ive got a mossberg 500 that needs some blueing touchups to the security barrel i put on it. I sas wondering if its as easy as useing a Q-tip to apply small amounts to the scratches or if i need a licensed gun smith to apply it instead. ***** sporting goods sells bottles of it for like 8 bucks and id rather not waste money on it if i can just do it myself. Thank you

  • mossberg 590 9 matte blue (nor blued version) vs mossberg 590 9 shot mariner?

So ive decided to make the next gun a mossberg 590 instead of the remington 887 tactical. Now i already own a mossberg 500 for hd, but will prolly give that to the gf as her designated gun incase of breakin and to use at the range (its got a 18.5" barrel on it but im just looking to find one with a longer mag and to have both of us have a hd gun)

The reason why im asking this is because i have relatives in florida that i like to shoot woth when i visit and since they live on the gulf ive been considering going for the 600 dollar mariner version because of how much salt water use itll get down there (which is quite a bit as we sometimes do over the beach typ stuff) so if i cpuld have any opionions, facts, or experiences shared by u all thatd be great, cause if the matt blue 590 9 shot sp is just as good as the mariner version when it comes to saltwater and freshwater corrosion resistance ill just skip the mariner

  • is the remington 887 nitro express tactical worth the money?

Now, i already own a mossberg 500 field gun that i put a 18.5" barrel onto in place of the 28" vent rib it came with. Now, im not a hunter, and am really just a firearms enthusiest who enjoys fun/target shooting, and values the role they play in equalization against a threat to my life or home.

Ive heard they have been having issues with them, like rust under the polymer Armorlokt outer shell that is supposed to keep out the elements near perfectly, that they have had issues with the bolts coming out of battery when fireing the powerfull 3 1/2" shells but some people say through experience thats just from not haveing a grip far enough back to avoid pulling the slide when the gun discharges. Etc.. so my questions are what r ur personal preferences/opinions on this gun, im gonna be going to pt firearms tomarrow to take a look and see if they have some, and if not check out their prices on the mossber 590's their just cause thats my backup plan.

I also need a slightly less weighty gun than my mossberg (which means the remington will be about a pound less i beleive but thats not my primary reason and really doesnt matter) anywhoo, id prefer not to here about how i dont need a gun if i dont hunt or any other bull like that as its my constitutional right and if i want to own a shotgun for self defense or just to shoot on a beautiful day outside than imma buy a gun. Thanks.

  • how much should a glock 17 gen 4 cost brand new?

My gf is gonna get one prolly within the next year, and we went to gander mountain, and the price was 599.99. To me it seemed a bit steep, but was just wondering if anyone could offer their insight into this on if thats a good price or way over what it should be. (Gander mountain is really the closest place that sells handguns here in madison wisconsin new that is, but pt firearms in mount horeb does but since they dont have a website (that ive found at least) im not gonna just drive 30 miles to look and not actually buy.)

  • how is the new Samsung Galaxy S III 4G?

I currently have a two year old Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G that im very close to liquifying with a sledgehammer because while ive been toying the idea of staying with this one for awhile and just putting up with its idiotic spazing.. it has now gotten inbetween me and my ability to recive emails from my boss, so instead of buying internet for my apartment and a freakin computer, i fogure throwing up my arms and getting a Galaxy S III 4G will be cheaper for me. So does anyone have any experience with the new Galaxy S III 4G, either good or bad and if possible, some legit sources and/or links to reviews would be great. Thank u.

  • Glock 17 gen 4 or XDm 4.5 9mm?

The gf and i were at gander the other day and while she is 21 i hqve about a year till i am and shes already decided on the Glock 17 Gen 4 as it felt, in her words "incredable" in her hands. I held it as well and damn was it nice, and theyve pretty much fixed its issues so im not worried about that. My problem is.. i cant decide between the G17 Gen 4 and the XDm 4.5 9mm becquse of several reasons:

The glock is near invincible, and im really only intending on buying one handgun for a long time so longevity and extreme durability is a plus. And while the XDm is constructed similarily (with the difference in magazine construction as the glock has polymer coated steel and the XDm only has steel mags) im not entirely convinced they have the same reliability so id be nice to get some opinions from those that have handled both.. what are their pros and cons each. And ive also considered a glock 22 gen 4 for its ability to swap the barrel and magazine between, .357 sig and .40 cal chambering which would be a plus but not entirely needed unless im up at my step dads land, so some experience on the G22 would be great to hear about as well.

As a disclaimer though, im jot going for a compact one because it will be something im not going to be conceal carrying unless in winter as most places i got during the summer are places that ban concealed carry here in wisconsin. And while i may only be 19 currently, i prefer to get as much knowledge on this before im 21 in a year and a month. If i left out anything ur confused about let me know and ill add some more to this. Thank you
