can u apply blueing urself to a firearm?
Ive got a mossberg 500 that needs some blueing touchups to the security barrel i put on it. I sas wondering if its as easy as useing a Q-tip to apply small amounts to the scratches or if i need a licensed gun smith to apply it instead. ***** sporting goods sells bottles of it for like 8 bucks and id rather not waste money on it if i can just do it myself. Thank you

Yes...you can buy "touch-up pens", or "kits" from almost any of the shooting supply houses to do either a complete bluing job, or to just do touch-ups.... There are a number of brands for doing touch-ups, and all are simple and easy to apply... I personally like the Outer's gun blue touch-up kit... It costs just a few dollars, and does a decent job.................... Birchwood Casey Presto Gun Blue Pen is another that costs about 6 or 7 bucks, and does a reasonably good job, particularly if the places are not too large.

Cold blue can be used to touch up small areas. The gun shop may also have a Sharpie type pen for less money that contains cold blue.
