Do you believe in evolution and the bible?
I know many people who believe in one or the other, but what about both? Because they're kind of contradictory.
Or maybe just one?

The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept the big bang and evolution!
Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!
Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at fundie expense!
But behind the laughter is the despair at the fundamentalists striving so hard to destroy christianity by turning it from a religion to an ideology!
Surveys suggest that 29% of American christians are so extremist in their beliefs that they fall well outside of the accepted bounds of christianity!

I certainly know Christians who have no problem believing in the Bible while also understanding and accepting the evidence for evolution. They just don't take the Book of Genesis as some literal account of geological history.
>>Because they're kind of contradictory.
Only if you take Genesis literally. Some Christians would say that to do this is to miss the point.
Source(s): "Myths are about the human struggle to deal with the great passages of time and life - birth, death, marriage, the transitions from childhood to adulthood to old age. They meet a need in the psychological or spiritual nature of humans that has absolutely nothing to do with science. To try to turn a myth into a science, or a science into a myth, is an insult to myths, an insult to religion, and an insult to science. In attempting to do this, creationists have missed the significance, meaning, and sublime nature of myths. They took a beautiful story of creation and re-creation and ruined it." - Michael Shermer - BelieverLv 79 years ago
No, everything about them is just the opposite...
1) The time period
2) The order of creation
3) Man having dominion over animals
4) Sin came before death, NOT death before sin.
5) Jesus referenced Genesis 25 times and he said "Adam and Eve were from the beginning".
Those who think that you just take Genesis allegorically and that solves the problem are sadly mistaken. Creation is referenced throughout the OT and NT. You would have to change the WHOLE BIBLE and all that Jesus talked about as being historical.

I no longer believe in God, Christianity, or the Bible, but I was raised to believe in them, and was never taught that they were incompatible with science. Genesis was treated as largely metaphorical, a creation story, meant to illuminate "spiritual truths" rather than to be a literal history. I was taught that God was the driving force behind evolution, and that he used it as his mechanism for creating the various species. Many people do believe in both.

evolution craps all over the bible
genesis is made false by evolution
and that first book, about the creation, is the reason the book exists at all
it is the answer to the big question, why are we here ?
if they cant get that right then the rest is not worth the paper it is written on
conclusion the bible is not the word of god

Of course it is possible.
It is sufficient not to be fundamentalist about the Genesis and in general non historic parts that shouldn't be interpreted literally, as they would clash with present scientific knowledge.
They were written >2000 years ago and should never be intended to replace science.

Lots of people are into Intelligent Design. It really isn't contradictory when considering that Genesis is considered to be stories and not fact. It's only silly Creationists that tend to view Genesis as absolute fact.

can't have both if your a christian and believe in evolution then how do you account for first sin?

Man evolved enough to be able to write the bible. Without evolution, there would be no books.
