Do monitors compute anything?
Im not really sure how monitors work, but would you consider them to be a device that "computes?"
Even if they're just circuits, isn't my TI-83, too?

Any "computing" done in a monitor is very basic and hard-coded into a few ROM chips found inside the monitor. These chips house the firmware that control the OSD that you see on the monitor as well as a set, non-changing algorithm to decipher the image data coming from your computer. All results from this simple "computing" are expected and no new variable are introduced, so it is not a true "computing" device. It is more of a hardware decoding function.
It's similar to a microwave. It has a simple ROM chip that is programmed to show the time on the screen and tell the microwave what to do according to what button you press. The result is that the microwave just heats up food. Albeit at variable power levels or time, but at levels that you choose. There is not much computing going on in there.

No. A computer is anything that can read in data from users or other sources and then make decisions and produce results from that data.
