It isn't possible to do that, but we would like to get off foreign oil. A recent study showed that combination of wind and solar power can provide 95% of our energy needs (accounting for expected increases) in the next decade or so with quite realistic production levels. (You need both because there is more sun in the day and more wind at night, plus a handful of other methods for the 5% of the time that weather prevents either of these methods from providing suitable energy at peak hours).
