Why Do People Think That Tyler Perry movies Negatively Stereotype Black People?

I ask this because someone just asked a question about negative movies and noticed that many named Tyler Perry movies.

Honestly, I'm surprised. While I admit, The Medea character can get annoying, but I think Tyler Perry has some decent movies, with good story lines and positive messages. For example, Daddy's Little Girls, is about a father getting custody of his girls and being hardworking.

So what do you think makes it negative? I don't see it.

Update:

@ vitamo: I agree that black people have many dimensions, and I think some of his movies showcase that. Don't know if you've seen The Family That Preys, but it shows diverse personalities beyond shucking and jiving. Also Good Deeds was outside the normal stereotypes. I also agree he does get too preachy sometimes.

@ Asky: To me, many movies about women in general show a woman in a bad relationship, and then finding true love. I find that when his movies show that, it usually has a positive ending with the woman finding a good relationship, like his movie Family Reunion.

Tyler Perry is a very brilliant Producer/Director and human being, Many white people envy him for those reason. His movies and sitcoms are no different from movies sitcoms Produced/Directed by white people except the characters in Tyler Perry's movies/sitcoms are predominately Black. Why would he want to purposely stereotype Black people when he is Black. White people are always making negative remarks about Tyler Perry stereotyping his own people. White people want to stop Black from supporting and patronizing his movies and sitcom. Turn Black against Black. Do white people ever think that other nationalities of people might think that movies/sitcoms produced by white Producers/Directors have some truth to them about white people in reality. Mass Murder movies, Comedy, Psycho Movies, Murder movies "Based on true stories" and etc. Would you think that white producer/directors/screen writers are stereotyping WHITE people...Like white people think/accuse Tyler Perry of doing? Movies, TV show, Sitcom are for entertainment purposes. Why criticize Black people?

Because it does negatively stereotype black people. It is the usual loud mouth, schucking and jiving with the usual preachy message, pretty much like being talked down to. Black people do not want to talked down to, just talked to and they will make up their own minds.

There are many dimensions to black people, different personalities and outlooks on life, and when even a black director such as Tyler Perry gives you the usual, it is a shame, which is why for some black people, he is just enabling the negative message of blacks which in turn, makes some blacks not like him.

Because the main thing he plays off of is "Black women got done wrong" and "Little Black girl scarred" and "Black girl gets mistreated by men," and "Everyone's Black grandma is a ghetto soul mama" and etc etc etc. He doesn't use real Black culture, he just uses every single cliche that Black women in particular fight so hard against. They don't like it that Black girls are stereotyped as being the ones who can't keep a relationship together, can't keep a Black man, always getting hurt and scarred, always getting done wrong, etc. They hate that, yet people celebrate Tyler Perry movies as if he weren't making millions off of portraying Black women in that light. It's disgusting. Plus he isn't funny.

For those who answered Tyler Perry, still have a slave mentality. We have to questioned how they are negative and who are they embarrassing to? It is to other black folks but white people. Do I see any problems in his films? No, because in his movies he shows a multiplicity from hard working black family to a low life individual. Can anyone name a movie that produce by a white male that shows that type of dynamics? Nope.

People put too much pressure on Tyler Perry. Can we let Tyler be Tyler? If Tyler created nothing but Horror films, then you have people complaining about that. I know there's a lack of multiplicity but whose fault is that? It's our community fault, when we don't embrace independent black films. And why wasn't "Dear White People" being backed by the rich (black) entertainers? We are own biggest critics and most if us don't even support black film makers in general.

No, but I do think they're cheesy, though.

    Madea is funny.

I think his movies are unbelievably lame, and predictable. I also think black people watch them just because black people are in them. You should demand higher standards in black entertainment.
