Is the Marines a rough branch to have a career in?

Once you are into your job and past training it is not too bad.

If you are in combat arms you have a very good chance to make rank in a hurry, which will help your career and retirement.

If you want an easy job, then go Air Force.

Yeah, they don`t have a high reenlistment rate, not because people don`t want to, but because it`s really hard to, but not impossible. Many Marines then enlist in the Army afterwards. Army`s best for a career, they really are. Marines often do 4 years in the Corps and then another 15+ in the Army.

Air force or navy and find out what you have to do to become an officer.. just talk to a recruiter. I've also heard the marines is the most physically demanding and the "tuffest" but that may be because my father just retired from the corp. and my bro is currently a marine. But personally the military isn't my style. Follow you dreams tho. good luck

The USMC can be cut throat (more so than most other branches) and Marines who want to stay in have to be on top of their game. Marines that don't will be processed out because they won't be promoted. The importance of promotion lies in tenure rules. For each rank which means that if you get passed over for promotion too many times, you get processed out. For example, if a Cpl doesn't get promoted to Sgt within 8 yrs of their total first enlistment, then they get processed out. Tenure for Sgt has been cut to 10 yrs, so if a Sgt doesn't pick up Staff Sgt by his 10th yr in the USMC, then he'll be processed out. Many Marines who wanted to re-enlist (now or during cuts) couldn't because of the tenure rule.

There are also those who chose not to stay in as well.

If you want to make a career in the Military, I'd recommend going into the Navy. The Navy has jobs for every mind, every walk of life, whether you are a cook, computer geek, lawyer, or just a college graduate with no job.

Fact: Either branch of the US Military is a piece of cake. Just be willing to follow orders. When you can't take it, discharge.

no all you do is a few pushups and then you go to afghanastan to be treated like a god when you come home from your easy life of a king... but really, what do you think, the marines are tough has hell to get into
