Gym twice a day or over training?

I was thinking about going to the gym twice a day. I would do weights in the morning and then do some cardio/abs in the late afternoon.

Will this get faster results or is this over training?

  • Agreed^ overtraining is bullcrap!

When you say twice a day you should be more specific as to how long you plan on being there. I go for about an hour and a half everyday, cardio for 45 min and weights the rest, when I dont go to the gym I do a session of Insanity (45min) and P90X (about an hour). Has it sped up my results? No not really, because I'm not eating like I should, all the working out in the world wont give you the results your after if you dont watch your nutrition.

If your looking to get bulked up, your not giving enough recovery time to recover, try to have weights days, and do cardio on off days. If you want to remain active, keep it at a light jog in the afternoon or evening. With abs usually my gym buddies add that as our final 3 sets to cool down from a large workout.

    Ignore the other two answers.

Overtraining is bullcrap. Most people don't know how the CNS operates and they also do not know how difficult it is to achieve such a state as the boogeyman that is overtraining.

But no two a day sessions will not speed up results. Muscle tissue is developed at a rather slow rate when one is not on enhancing drugs.

its only overtraining if you hit the same body part twice a day or twice in 1-2 days. if you do weights in the morning and cardio at night, or vice versa, then its not overtraining

Distracted dining could possibly get you in trouble. Avoid eating before a television or in a movie theatre, as you're bound to ingest more calories.

you can't live off of protein shakes. you need sugar and carbs, and basically an all round healthy diet. make sure you're getting plenty of sleep, and you're letting your muscles recover. having one day off, or even just a day where you go for a walk and chill out. good job though, just don't make yourself ill from over-exhaustion.
