theists or atheists, have you ever been in this situation?

working for an evangelical, she holds her faith above employee benefits or raises since she thinks god will bless us if we deserve so.

as an atheist, with my good friend being gay who also works with me...we are constantly separated from the possibility of advancing further in our careers. problem is, the market for graphic designers in ohio is nil (been looking for years).

has anyone been in this situation before, where you have had to bite your tongue so much it hurts? if so, how did you work past it or resolve conflict when constantly being bombarded with christian customers getting such crazy discounts that would equal a 1.00/hr pay raise for a year without the slightest 'thanks for your hard work' in return?

at a breaking point after 3 years, and with a decent job so hard to come by (own house/cats/ferrets/car) is it worth just sucking it up until something else comes around?

would like some feedback from christians or atheists who have been in this situation, all opinions valued.

It sounds to me like you need to start building your own business on line. Graphic design is one of those things that is important to Internet use, and that frees you from location entirely. Once you have enough income from your own business to support you at least as well as you are currently supported by working for this unsatisfactory employer, tell her exactly what you think of her and quit. In the meantime, you'll have something to keep in mind when the frustrations mount: it's not forever.

Forgive my ignorance, but is a "graphic designer" the same as a website designer? I know someone who just left her job at Findlay Publishing Company, so they might be hiring.

I haven't been in your situation, but from the sound of it, you should keep looking for another job. Take all the effort that you would put into working if you did get rewarded for it, and devote that to the job search.

Have you talked to your employer about this? If she is a nice person despite her committment to you burning in hell, then when you tell her you feel discriminated against, she might try to do better.

I worked in a Catholic Health-Care Organization for most of my adult life. I got along famously with priest and nuns. They never tried to convert me nor did they take offense if the subject came up and I stated my lack of belief. Now evangelicals, on the other hand are clearly nuts and generally ignorant to boot. They are a whole different story!

I've worked with/for christians before, but never for an evangelical.

I don't think that would work out too well.

I would get some legal advice if you are being deliberately targeted because of your beliefs.

I would also keep documentation of what you would consider "bad business practice" and then talk to HR.

Familiarise yourself with your rights in the workplace. If your boss is crossing the line, you must address the situation.

Personally, I'd tell her to go **** herself, but I'm not you. You need to sit down and decide whether it's worth it to go against your beliefs, but keep a job; or to stay true to your beliefs, but probably be out of work for a while.

Not been in a situation like that since I was a teenager. You have my pity, I'd go postal.

Walk up to her and tell her, God told me to tell you, give that man a raise.
