How to pick a sweet wine?

I really want to buy some wine, but the ones I've had before have been too dry. I like a sweeter wine, but somwthing less expensive than icewine. My preference would be red, but I really don't know at the moment. Any suggestions for a well priced, sweet wine? Dessert wines are fine, I'd be interested. Just if you can, tell me a bit about it. I'm a total wine virgin!

I am not a wine Connoisseur, but most of the wines I have had were dry and unpleasant to me. This includes ones that people assured me were "sweet". Apparently people who drink wine often have a different idea of sweet than I do. But Moscato is a sweet dessert wine. It is white, but I have seen varieties of pink Moscato. It's has a fruity flavor, is a sparkling wine with a slightly lower alcohol content than most wines. There are a number of brands, some are better than other's, so you just have to pick one and see. The price starts at about $6 and even the cheap ones are not a bad wine.
