What do I have to do to own a firearm in Texas?

I'm 21 and I want an AR-15 and a pistol. What do I have to do? I have no criminal background. I'm also an Army Reservist. Do I just apply and pay for a license? Where would I do that at? Thank you.

    No license.

You go to the dealer, pick the one you want. They will give you a short form to fill out (Form 4473), and run a background check on you. If you pass, you pay for the gun(s) and take them home. If you're denied, they will give you a phone number to call to find out why you failed the NICS check. If you get a delay, then they have up to 72 hours to give a denied message. If you haven't gotten a call in 72 hours with a deny, you are considered approved legally and you can go pick up your gun.

Source(s): Have bought 2 guns so far this year...well 1 and 1 part of a gun (the part that's considered a gun).

In Texas you do not need a license to own or purchase a firearm, you only need a license to carry concealed in Texas if you are a resident of Texas. Just go in a gun store, pick out the firearms you want, give them your ID, and they will do a background check on you that takes less that 10 minutes, pay for the firearms you picked out, and walk out of the store with your new firearms completely legal.

Like most of the United Stares, no license is required to purchase and own an AR-15 and pistol in Texas (don't believe everything you see on TV shows). When you make the purchase, you will be required to fill out ATF From 4473: http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-4473-1.pdf You will also need a driver's license with your correct address (same one that is on the form). They will also perform a background check, which is usually turned around within a few minutes. From the time you make the decision you can be out of the store with your gun within 30 minutes.

Breathe... and I am not sure that is even a requirement :) Texas is one of the most gun friendly states in the union so all you have to do is go to the gun store, pick what you want, they will run the background check that is federally required, pay for it, and it is yours.

No license needed. Process is: go to a gun shop, pick out an AR and a pistol you like, pay them, let them do the background check (about 30 mins) and walk out with your new guns.

Go pay for the guns and wait about 7 days to pick them up.

Just bring ID and money, fill out the fed. form 4473, pass the NICS background check, pay for your purchase, and that is it.
