Why was Romney so unprepared about our navy? Was this his biggest gaffe?

We don't have as many ships as we did in 1917.

We don't have as many horses or bayonets either!

Update:

Yes I voted for Obama. My ballot is already in the mail!

A ship no matter what size can only be in one place at a time.

With our shrinking Navy we don't have the coverage that we need around the world.

Obama seems to think that one liners (and it was a funny one) are all it takes to be CIC. He is missing the fundamentals of what Romney was trying to explain to him though.

LOL Obama knows full well that the JCS (Joint Chiefs) and the secretary of the Navy are concerned about the number of ships in he Navy. We are pulling down the number of ships in our Navy, as of now there are insufficent forces to deal with more than one conflict. Romney was actually correct--this is an issue. There were several other untruths mr. obama committed last night.

Problem is people like you go for a thirty second sound bite without actually understanding or looking into whats a stake. After all Mr. Obama would lie to you would he?

This is the reason why we need to get these 2 clowns out of office. Their jokes, smirks, their arrogance will not get this country back to work. We need change, we need to move forward. We need to get our economy back and Romney is the guy to vote on Nov 6. Obama is all talk talk no action kind of president. His priorities have not been on getting America on it's feet but going on the View, David Letterman other shows now that's more important. Are you kidding? With all the important issues that we are facing as a nation he thinks it's a joke. America wake up!!! We deserve better. Lets vote Romney/Ryan.

It's not just a gaff. It's about a man trying to convince a nation to make him commander in chief of our armed forces who does not have the slightest idea of the capabilities of the naval vessels that would be under his command. This glaring weakness is just the tip of the Iceberg. Romney should thank his lucky stars that there are no more debates.

Because Romney has less than a 47 percent knowledge of our military and foreign affairs. The people who support Romney and make less than a million dollars a year are going to be very very sorry.

Romney is right. With a all world strategy we need more ships to be in all oceans Obama does not understand the military. (Marines still use bayonets)

The US Marines and Army still use bayonets!

Many nations still maintain small numbers of mounted (horses) military units for certain types of patrol and reconnaissance duties in extremely rugged terrain, including the current conflict in Afghanistan.

Just because Obama can tell a joke, doesn't make him smart or right... We all laughed but, Romney is still a better, smarter and more respectable man than Obama will ever be.

I had a feeling this would fall apart for him. National security was never going to be his strong point.
