Did Spain take part in the French and Indian war?

I know Britain and French were but what about Spain.

Also what was the role of the colonists in the war? Did they fight side by side with the British?

Spain didn't take part in that war but, they did get involved with the Seven Years' War which the French and Indian War was part of. They sided with the alliance of France, Austria, Russia, Sweden, Saxony and the Mughal Empire against the British, Hanover, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Hessel-Kassel, Schaumburg-Lippe, Prussia and the Iroquois Confederacy. The Spanish invaded Portugal, which is allied with Britain by the Treaty of Windsor which is the oldest treaty still in effect, but the British aided the Portuguese and the invasion and stalled the Spanish. The British also battled Spain overseas in the Anglo-Spanish War (1761-1763) taking Cuba and Manila which were returned to Spain in exchange for Britain getting Florida.

Yes,they were allied with France under the Family Compact and there was some minor fighting in Florida as a result.

The British colonists fought for the British and the French colonists for the French.

However, after Washington's disastrous Ohio River valley expedition and the inactivity of the colonist militia at the severe defeat of Monongahela in 1755,the British decided that colonist militia were unreliable, and sent more regular British troops to get the job done instead.
