Guys: when do you consider a girl a best friend?

I'm just interested in the guy's perspective on this. If you consider a girl a best friend, has she been friend zoned? For example, if you tell a girl "you're one of my best friends" -- I know what a best friend is... but I want to know what it takes for a guy to consider a girl to be considered a best friend to them.

Update:

i only ask because one of my very good guy friends told me the other day that he considered me one of his best friends... we've spent a lot of time together and have gotten to know each other pretty well within the past year and I'd basically do anything for him... so I guess, it was nice to hear, but I just wanted to see how guys approach being best friends with girls... keep answering! =D

    she is someone i can confide in there is an emotional and intellectual bond --- by the by for mature people the "friend zone" does not exist ---- not as you see it anyway ---- i will only ever date or marry my best friend ---- if she is not my best friend then why am i with her anyway???

    Perhaps after a year. Until the4n there's no best. Next is more than friends

    Not friendzoned particularally. I honestly would put them as a good friend, but not a bestfriend, I only have one of those. Anyways, if she's there for me, we hang out, and have good conversation = Good friend. :D ~Grimmy~

    With guys, there's no such thing as a friend zone. We like to have sex with everything.
