Care giver in Saudi stock?
A female caregiver is working for 2 years in Riyadh. Her employer wants her to extend her contract till Ramadan 2013. She really wants to return back to the Phills, she didn't see her daughter, parents and family for 2 years and her employers hold her passport. She is also not allowed to hold a mobile phone and not allowed to go outside the house. What can she do to get out of this [prison] situation?
@Joe M: Her employer is holding her passport and you cannot go out of Saudi with an "Exit stamp" your passport. Obviously you don't know anything from Saudi.

Putting myself in your shoes I would have V. contacting Migrante - Middle East in Dubai for assistance and advise how to help this Filipina in Saudi. I am 100% positive that Migrante workers have their contacts to the Phil Embassy in Riyadh and maybe even an own branch in Saudi.
It doesn't seem that the person concerned is any relative and therefore you should stay out of things happening in Saudi. You never know whom you will be dealing with and what the outcome might be. In the meantime this caregiver should NOT sign any extention of her contract. In this case one day her employer will have to explain why she overstayed her current iqama:) That maybe makes him think.
On the other hand the maid may overthink her decision and negotiates the new required minimum salary of USD 400 for housemaids (since Oct. 1st).
Below please find the Migrante - Middle East link with contacts:

All the best.

In what area of Saudi is this . You can try to contact the "emirate" prince of that area . Like in Riyadh there is an office for the prince and try to emphasize it is a humanitarian situation so you get priority. But it is very hard to meet him in person because many people will be asking the same , but at least it will bring attention , and that office might at least get labor & police authorities involved to remedy the problem. If you are not able to go to KSA then go to the Saudi consulate and ask to meet the consoler and explain the problem , he might be able to make some calls to bring attention of authorities to this employer.

If she cannot get to the Phillpines embassy, then why don't you try contacting them on her behalf to see if they can help. I know it's a tough situation as maids and nannies are so often mistreated in the gcc nations. Going to the local police is risky... They might help, but they could just as easily make her life even more miserable... So I'd try going through the embassy.

I feel sad and sorry for her.
Having heard many bad stories from others who have worked there, my recommendation to Philippinas are not to go there or else they will be abused. Realize you are working for a despicable society who still believes in serfdom and make judgments by double standards.
Source(s): I know several Philippina girls who have worked in Saudi and heard their stories of suffering abuses.
