Seniors - Do you understand why this is?
Joe Politician comes on TV with an ad. The ad says the most glowing and positive things about him and his record of service.
At the end of the ad, Joe Politician says, "I approve this message." I always think well, Duh, what would he say, "The preceding were lies, all lies?" Why do all the politicians say they approve of their own message?
Just taking a little break from the TV and news of the storm Sandy. Been watching since early this morning, and your nerves do get frayed after awhile and you have to step away. I'm not in an area that floods, but already two very large trees have come down in the park across the street. And the extreme winds they call for have not even started. Will only get worse. Hope all my fellow East Coasters are safe. God Bless. ♥

The reason they all say "I'm so and so and I approve of this message" has become a legal requirement in 2002 as part of the McCain-Feingold campain reform law. The idea is to force candidates to identify their ads versus those of third-parties. You can read more about it here:

Many of the advertisements for politicians are made without the politician even knowing about it much less give their approval. So awhile back if the politician was involved or even if they have at least seen it and approve of the message, they make a statement at the end of the message saying I approve of this message.

I see and wonder the same. When the other side here says something like''so and so will cut programs and raise taxes''... why don't they come on and say my opponent lies, or that's not true. I keep telling everyone to stay away from their windows with these trees falling. I had the weather on , but saw the subways and stock exchange and everything was eerie and deserted. Glad people take this storm seriously. Every one in our thoughts and prayers for your safty. Stay in, stay warm.

I am with you in your good wishes. At least they are fortunate in getting a warning, and with any luck and foresight they will be safe. Which is all that matters, well before any property or money.
As far as "approving this message", it's a career ending move for Mr. Romney to keep his ads up and running for Mourdock in Indiana. Women will simply not put up with this crap, which was, in effect: oh, you poor woman! you got screwed! Oh! You're pregnant? Looks like you got screwed again! Because - well, you know - god wanted you to get screwed so that other women could come along and get screwed, too.
If Mr. Romney has any credibility at all left with women, he should denounce what this man said - not just disagree with it - but DENOUNCE it.
I'm sorry, really sorry, to have gone off this way, but this stuff about men saying how women think or how THEY think they think makes me nuts.

I was surprised that one man here said he paid for his own advertisement. That was refreshing to hear. I will vote for him since I have not voted as of yet.
