All my desktop files disappeared and they're still in my macintosh HD?

all my desktop files disappeared and when i click where there was one before it comes back ! but when i close my computer and reopen it , it's all gone again! but all the files are in my macintosh HD ? i don't understand and i looked everywhere, please help :(

    So you never actually turn it off? Let it reboot.
