With the city in such crisis right now, it does seem like a bad thing to do. I saw Mary Wittenberg, the CEO of the NYC Road Runners, on the Today progam this morning, and sort of agree with some of the things she said. She said it will help bring the city together and will show the triumph of the human spirit. In such a catastrophe like this, people can feel powerless and without hope. This event will help change this depressed mental psyche. And she said monetary charitable donations for this event will go to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

I grew up in the NYC area, in Stamford, CT, and now live in Salt Lake City. Back in 2001, 9/11/01, NYC experienced another horrifying event, but that tragedy was not caused by mother nature like this one. Five months after 9/11, SLC hosted the successful 2002 Winter Olympics, which helped people's disheartened spirits. Cheering on other people is a good thing. So the international NYC marathon can really help.

No. People need to man up. A little water never hurt anyone. Seems like people on east coast like to complain a lot....poor me....no food no power.
