    Reagan,

    He committed High Treason-Iran Contra

    He deregulated business-pollution/revenue/law violation

He over-spent- need we remember the "Star Wars" project.

He cut-funding for public schools-not just art and music programs, but science and math too.

He moved thousands of jobs overseas-real exportation of labor began under him.

He created the yuppie mentality-no one likes yuppies

He promoted radical capitalism-Sacrifice the business if it will gain you a net profit mentality

He made Alex P. Keaton in his image-nuff said

He presided over the shift from Americans being doers to Americans being consumers-serf class

He and sometimes even Carter are considered the first "Bought" presidents-meaning they no longer worked for the people, but for the interests of business

And despite all of this the right thinks he is a God!

Ronald Reagan. The Republicans have built up a whole legend about him, how he 'made us proud to be Americans again', how he balanced the budget 8 years in a row, kept women and minorities in their place, and singlehandedly destroyed the USSR. In fact he was a mediocre president at best. He was a good leader but a mediocre administrator and executive.

In the end it might be the Republican Party that Reagan singlehandedly destroyed. He led the party away from its long tradition of fiscal responsibility. He made politics all about party and personality rather than actual ideas. He began a trend of concentration of wealth that has done huge damage to most people in this country. He polarized Americans, setting half of us against the other half. And he convinced a 'critical mass' of Americans that the way to balance the budget, the ONLY way, is to tax LESS and spend MORE.

He also set a trend in the GOP, a precedent that the president is not really the leader of the country, he's only a spokesman for an agenda. Reagan understood his own opinions and positions so poorly that he wasn't able to discuss them in his own words, so he couldn't do unscripted interviews. IOW Ronald Reagan had no more control over his administration than Ronald McDonald does over his!

GW Bush was only trying to be the next Reagan, and in fact he out-Reaganed Reagan in many ways. But he couldn't have done it without Reagan.

In fact, we didn't even -have- a president for Reagan's last term. Reagan himself was so out of it that he didn't recognize his own cabinet secretaries, people he saw every day, when he met them at parties. It wasn't entirely his fault, the poor guy had Alzheimers and I don't mean to pick on him for that. But the point is that his crew, his handlers, just went right on running his office as they had all along, so well that nobody could tell the difference! Can you just imagine how badly that would have worked, how obvious it would have been, if it happened under Clinton or Obama?

Has to be Reagan. He's given credit for the collapse of the USSR, an event which he had very little influence over. He's also generally given credit for the end of the inflation which dominated the late 1970s, but that was really done by Volcker as head of the Fed. The high jobs growth of Reagan's 2nd term was also mostly the outgrowth of Volcker's policies.

Reagan, really he was at the right place at the right time. Personally Clinton was a much better president. Reagan was overrated other than being in the right place for the USSR to fall, he didnt do that much. Plus he did not have good relationship with Israel. He put flowers on the grave of dead Nazis. Clinton would never do that.

PeeBo. I mean, what has he done really?

    Without a doubt Reagan.

Ignoring the treason, the rampant corruption, what did he really do? Spend more than anyone since WWII to slightly speed up the decay of the USSR?

The history of his administration is ignored for a myth.
