Do you enjoy a narrative when watching a movie?

The reason Twelve Angry Men is one of my favorite movies is because one time I watched it on a public station with a narrator explaining the details of the movie. Since then I have watched the original movie and the newer version over and over. Lately I have been wishing I could see a few more movies with a narrative. Obviously I do not pick up on the little vagaries by myself, but when I am clued in I find the movie much more involving.

What movies have you seen with a narrative that you found more enjoyable?

Update:

I am referring to the type of narrative that takes place during intermissions from the movie, the movie breaks then a man standing in a library type office explains the details as in a little story of itself, then the movie starts up again.

Turner Classic Movies features a movie critic (his name is Osborne) and he frequently has a guest like Drew Barrymore. Before the movie starts, interesting notes about the movie are discussed giving the viewer things to look for during the movie.

The Military Channel occasionaly features Lou Diamond Philips (and guest) that discuss the movie before and during (around commercial breaks).

I think in both cases I appreciate the insight being presented by these people.

I assume you're not talking about the "commentaries" that accompany most DVD's, which are annoying to listen to unless you've seen the movie or program a few times and are interested in learning more about it. I watched Key Largo the other day and Robert Osborn introduced it, I enjoyed that very much. Then a few days earlier, I watched Treasure of the Sierra Madre and Leonard Maltin not only introduced it, but explained a lot about the comedy short and the Bugs Bunny cartoon and the previews that preceeded the movie.

One of the best commentaries I've heard with a movie was on The Wizard of Oz boxed set. There were a lot of special features on that set and the info contained was fantastic.

I don't usually enjoy a long narrative, sometimes the speaker is giving their own personal point of view and I want to enjoy a film my own way.

The movie, "A Christmas Story" has a narrative and it just wouldn't be the same funny movie without it.

Remember little Ralfie? One of the best seasonal movies.

Films with a serious narrative as you describe are very interesting. I read a nightly devotional that also has a narrative interjected to help the reader understand the text and, as you say, the vagaries, of the Biblical text..

There is one channel that sometimes has movies with notes at the bottom of the screen giving info on the movie and/or the actors. I love it and my wife hates it.

I like the movies where Robert Osborne gives some info about it before the movie. My wife hates that too.

I agree about " A Christmas Story" . That's one of the few Christmas movies I watch every year.

Yes, I like to watch a narrative of the movie when the option is available on the DVD.

I have not seen the type of narrative you speak of, yet. =)

I dont need someone explaining what I am watching. Who needs that? The word is "narration", not narrative.

Yes I do, as sometimes I can be pretty dense as to what is actually going on and why. I wish I had one in my car as I was driving sometimes.
