How much do you tip your tattoo artist?
I'm getting a tattoo next month and I have only just read about tipping your artist. Is there a certain percentage that you are supposed to tip? Is it required?

I tip about 15-20% of the price of the tattoo. It's not required but very appreciated by the artist and if you live in a country where tipping is customary (ie: USA) it is kind of rude not to tip. They preformed a service for you, you tip your hairdresser, yes?

It's not required to tip, though it is a courtesy, if you're satisfied with their work of course. You tip a hairdresser or barber,so it makes sense that you'd tip a tattoo artist too. I think that 15% is a good amount to tip them. You can obviously tip them more if you like, but I think that percentage is appropriate if you're happy with their work. I know I've always tipped tattoo artists,& piercers as well. My last tattoo that I got cost $100, & I was extremely happy w/the results,so I gave him a 20% tip,& he seemed to appreciate it,but at the same time he didn't seem to find it odd that I did that,so I'm sure it's not the first time someone had tipped him. So I think if you're happy, 15-20 percent is a good number, just like you would w/tipping anyone.

I have 5 tattoos and i constantly tip.. Three of mine cost between $180 and $220 and i've $50 for these three. My 2 smaller ones I tipped $20. I do not believe quite a few individuals tip their tattoo artists although since despite the fact that i go to the same man at any time when he appears greatly surprised and always asks if i am definite about my tip. Just use your judgment if you wish to tip. It can be absolutely up to you.

josh, that would be incorrect. I usually tip 10-20 dollars. (depending on the price). my first tattoo was $60 and i gave him $10. first- tattoo artists' work off tips by alot. just because they "charge alot" doesnt mean anything. thats like saying i dont tip waiters because i ordered an expensive meal. second- if you go back to that same artist they remember that and will be more flexibe with your schedule and do their BEST work.

I got a tat and it was 70 bucks and I gave the artist 80. My first tat however cost 80 and I only had 80 so I didn't tip. Id say that 10 bucks is good though.
