Do you think the President should be given the power to override Congress?

I have been watching the news coming out of Washington, and I am very disturbed over the White House trying to get the power to override Congress in issues such as increasing the debt ceiling. If the President has the power to override the Legislature we no longer have even a Democracy... we go straight to tyranny.

Your thoughts?

Update:

Matt H -- there is no reason to be rude. I am NOT talking about a veto. I am talking about an extension of the Presidential powers that would allow him to not only propose increasing the debt ceiling (as he is currently trying to do -- AGAIN!), but actually overriding Congress if he gets turned down. That would effectively make Congress a non-entity as far as the budget is concerned and opens the doors to other erosions in our political system.

Hes done that a few times already even though its illegal and he should have been impeached for it When Obama gave air support to the Libyan rebels and took out Gadafi and sent Libya into chaos he said he didn't have to go to congress but the law says he had to but he didn't care and only a few in congress cared and tried to impeach him.

Presidents do have that power but only in certain situations.

G.W.Bush issued 16 executive privilege orders within 1 month.Obama has done so couple of times.

White House passed a new act about securing nation's critical infrastructure against cyber-attacks because Republicans in congress filibustered against because the bill was introduced by a Democrat so White House took things under his control. There are things that NEEDS TO BE DONE.

    Sometimes it's necessary...

The President has always had power to override Congress. It is called a Veto. Seriously, do Americans even understand how their own government works?

The government is divided into 3 parts, each with the power to veto the other. It is called Checks and Balances.

You are the epitome of America's failed education system.

As some have pointed out, raising the debt ceiling isn't the same as appropriating the funds. Its still an issue of how far he raises the debt ceiling as related to perception in how much debt is acceptable. I think they should leave it as it is. It is suggested by the left to remove the discussion with our representatives. Never a good idea.
