Is garlic effective for preventing and getting rid of the common cold?

I'm not looking for a medication or ingredient that is... I just want this answer for the question... Links to unbiased tests are welcome... My boyfriend and I were discussing this and he said he found a link (which I can't find) that said garlic is not actually effective for the common cold. He said they proved that all the tests saying garlic was effective was in fact biased. I myself was raised to believe that it was effective...

Garlic is both an antibacterial agent and an antimicrobial agent and can help to boost your immune system as it is a natural antibiotic and this would probably help for the prevention of colds.

Once you have contracted a cold you are stuck with it until it cures itself although hot soup and hot drinks often help to make you feel a bit better.

As yet there is no cure for the common cold as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search?p=%22no+cure+for... and some people find that very hard to believe. Doctors will usually give you some medicine if you see them because this is what people expect and want. The medicine will probably make you feel a bit better but it will not speed up your recovery.

Honey, you sweat it out. It goes away when it can be achieved. Each person desires to cure cancer, however curing the common cold can be a fair higher coup. Anyway, all you can do is relieve symptoms. Many people drink scorching tea, consume chicken noodle soup, put hot or bloodless packs where they ache, and so forth. Me, I just wimp out and go straight to the drug store. I want liquid Tylenol bloodless/Flu. There is a hour of darkness one, which helps you sleep, and a daylight hours one, which helps you keep unsleeping. They go a ways towards making me consider 2/3 human for the duration of a bloodless. Whatever you utilize, just right good fortune!

It does help. It helped me. When I was in Bolivia, my entire family was sick with the flu. I took a combination of garlic, Vit C, Ginsing, Echnacha, and pro-biotics and never got sick. Also, in college all my roommates had swine flu and since I ate garlic, I did not get sick. Garlic, and ginger also protect against inflammation, high cholesterol, and radiation.
