Lord Costas has had enough of the little people who watch sports and he made his case for a job at NBC News. Should he be fired? Yeah I like that idea, but there's no chance of that. Oh and by the way, I knew Costas was an arrogant asshole before knowing Costas was an arrogant asshole was cool.

Yes.
Assume I own a fast food restaurant. I pay the cashier to take the orders, deliver them to the kitchen, and then present the food to the customer. Will the cashier talk to the customers? Of course. That human interaction is part of the experience. (I worked 10 years in fast food. Good restaurants train their staff on "chit-chat" protocols.) If that cashier would bring up a topic, in the middle of the dinner rush, that would offend at least 33% and more likely over 60% of the customers, would I fire him? Of course, he is costing me money as the customers choose not to come back.
This is not a free speech issue. I am not arresting him (that is what the first amendment protects you from, arrest) I am firing an employee that has an opinion that I am not paying him to promote, and in the process driving my paying customers away.
Bob Costas was not getting paid to (very poorly) discuss gun control. Many people, including myself, will never watch football on NBC while Costas is employed for that network. Simple business decision in my opinion.
Source(s): I saw the dribble. On top of that, anyone quoting Jason Whitlock for any reason is an idiot as the man is a racist and enjoys misleading his audience with made up information. - Colonel RebLv 78 years ago
I wouldn't fire him, but I would tell him to stop putting his opinions into the program.
I really wish Costas would do what he claims is his lifelong dream and go announce games for a minor league team for a year so we wouldn't have to hear him. He is an arrogant self-important blowhard and I have no idea why NBC puts him on everything, His Olympics coverage is an absolute joke. However this is not an offense to fire him over. If he does it repeatedly then I might have a different story.

First off, Costas wasn't voicing his own opinion: He was simply parroting what Jason Whitlock, a former Kansas City Star reporter, wrote. Secondly, I firmly believe that he's correct in the assertion that had Belcher not had a firearm his fiancee might be alive today.
Shooting someone can be an incredibly impersonal act, especially in today's society where video games -- like Medal of Honor, New Vegas, and Call of Duty -- desensitize us to acts of violence against other persons. Had Belcher attacked with Perkins his hands he may have been able to rein himself in before delivering a fatal blow -- by all accounts, he was not a bad guy so he may have been able to stop brutalizing her before killing her.
But one pull of the trigger ended her life and, ultimately, his.
So should Costas be fired for voicing an opinion? No, because he made a good point. Or more accurately, Whitlock did.

Costa should stick to waxing poetic about Olympic down hill skiers and forget the 2nd amendment crap.
Our country doesn't have a problem with law abiding citizens owning guns, its the scrubs that create 99% of the havoc with illegal guns.
I 100% guarantee that his security team are packing as they escort Costas back to his penthouse.

Why would you fire Costas? He gave his opinion, a lot of people agree with him, a lot did not. Is that a reason to fire him?
No, but i would put him on nbs news and get him out of sports, that was just rediculous. and as far as gun control, its just the stupidest topic, he is just a nerd stuck in suburbia, anybody can get a gun at anytime, where and that will never change, some people are just effed up in the head and thats the problem here, not the gun. There is just no possible way to eliminate guns, its a silly argument

I would not fire him. But I would ask him to speak his personal opinions elsewhere. On nbs news maybe. I had no problem with what he said. Only just the wrong time and place

Well, he's one of the most famous and accomplished sports analysts/ commentators in the game, so no. All he did was express his opinion and everyone hates him for it.
