Why do many anime characters shout the names of their attacks?
Just a fun, not-so-serious questions that has peaked my curiosity. I love One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail, and Reborn, and mainly action anime. I've always wondered, why do many (not all) characters say or shout the name of their attack before executing it? Even if they don't, it's narrated in their head in their voice. Is there a purpose for this? Dramatic effect, maybe? Or just so the fandom can have a way to distinguish and label attacks.
For example, in Avatar The Last Airbender, while NOT an anime, but influenced by anime styles, I've never EVER seen a bender shout the name of a technique before doing it. They just execute it right off the bat. Just something to be curious about.

Its for theatrics mostly, its alot more interesting for the viewer if the main character is lobbing energy beams and screaming the attack name at the top of his lungs than to watch him do it silently, plus it also helps in fan discussions because it makes the action a lot easier to describe.
Now, all this said, it could theoretically have some in-universe benefit. Attacks which require a complicated means of thinking, channeling energy or some other feat can be made easier for the user as a result of them giving a name to an attack. This name is linked in their minds to the understanding of how to use the technique, so simply saying the name is a shortcut to reminding themselves what to do. This does work in real life, associating words with idea's as mental triggers, so its perfectly logical for it to work for them.

It's for the added dramatic effect and to make it so much more epic. You've read/watched One Piece and when a character shouts out an attack as like a finisher after an epic battle, you must have at least thought something like "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA". Well at least I do :P
Like what if Luffy just swung his fists around instead of going "GOMU GOMU BULLET!"
It wouldn't be the same would it.

Anime characters shout the name of their attacks in order to make us remember that name and feel a awesome feeling. "
Word is more powerful than sword"

Well, in many action animes, sometimes the voice comand activates the power in the move. Other times.....it just sounds cool :-)

Not too sure, makes me curious too, especially in Naruto where they teach them not to let their enemies know what they are doing yet they yell out the name of their jutsu, practically telling their enemy.. haha
