Do you agree that there should be "Term Limits" on Congressmen/Senators?
We have Term Limits for POTUS and we are forced to retire working at age 65. Why do we have Congressman/Senators that are literally ready to enter a Retirement Home? They're still dragging around Wash.DC making senile & outdated decisions that affect our lives? Remember the outrageous comments regarding "LEGITIMATE RAPE", "ASPIRIN BETWEEN OUR KNEES FOR CONTRACEPTION", "VAGINAL PROBES", "BLUNT BILL", & "END ROEvWADE" ? Not to mention the Congressmen/Senators that ignore their constituents in favor of wealthy corps. contributions & lobbyist special interest. Should there be Term Limits for Congressmen/Senators, what do you think?
@ Tonalc2, Elections are great when voters are well educated and know what they are voting for. But most voters dont follow politics and vote by name recognition only. I agree with you on the loss of experience and all that but it seems like most politicians are just looking to get rich and screw the rest of us. Thanks.

We have them. They're called elections.
However, I think we need reform on the ability of parties to gerrymander districts to ensure their side's election.
Some arguments against them:
They terminate the good politicians along with the bad, they reduce the range of voter choice; there's a loss of knowledge and experience on how the Washington system works; and an increase in the power of staff, lobbies, and bureaucracy.

No.
People deserve the BEST CANDIDATE for the job. Removing a veteran congress critter also removes his(her) knowledge and experience. The people should determine how long the term in office is by voting the person out if the job is ineffective.
The president, on the other hand, can amass a great deal of power in two terms, and could achieve dictatorial powers if the he rules for longer.

Not just term limits! There should be no pensions allowed for the simple service of two years! Only government allows this. No private employer would ever allow this! This is the penalty we pay for allowing elected officials to set their own rules! Who's the boss here, the citizen or the elected official who works for the citizen?

absolutely. there should also be a 10-15 yr term limit for Supreme Court Justices as well. Those people have way too much power to be allowed to sit on the bench indefinitely.

term limits are pointless..for 2 reasons..
1. its the lobbyists that need to go, not the congresspeople
2. when you throw the bums out, you get the same bums you threw out last time( may have a different name but theyll do the same thing..
so we need to eliminate lobbyists..and create pathways to 3rd parties
