How to show him I like him?

So there's a guy. And I really like him. We talk sometimes but I want to get to know him better. I see him staring at me a lot and hes always the one to talk to me first but its usually about homework because we're not really on a good friend level yet. My concern is that because I like him, I get a little nervous around him. I'm scared to make an effort to talk to him because I don't want to be awkward or imposing. So it may seem like I'm ignoring him. The last thing I want is for him to think I don't like him. I really want to talk to him more and get closer and I want him to know that. But what's the best way to do that? And start a conversation casually? Thanks!
