who was the third coffin when Orochimaru summoned the first two hokages against the 3rd hokage?
It couldn't have been Minato because he was sealed away in the shinigami's belly
Orochimaru had nothing belonging to the 4th. He implanted the cells of the FIRST to Yamato. Cells and soul is not the same thing, and the souls of either the first and second were not inside the demon god. So they were revived no problem, not the same for Minato. I really doubt Orochimaru wouldn't have known this.
It could NOT have been the fourth because he was sealed...
also, the fourth's cells are not the same as Naruto's cells, regardless of being father and son. You may as well claim Orochimaru would be able to summon Hiruzen from Konohamaru's cells, or the Nine-Tails from Naruto's cells. That's ridiculous.

Simple answer, there was no third coffin. Seriously. Go read the manga. Oro only summons two coffins.
The third was only used the anime and is therefore non-canon. Kishi himself stated that during part I, he had no idea where he was going to take the plot, so the animators were equally as clueless as to the fate of Minato.

I've actually be wondering about this as well. To be honest with you, I think it may be a potential plot hole. I think it was supposed to be the 4th hokage, but we all know why that can't be the case (he was sealed and can't be revived, his DNA is irrelevant.) I don't think Kishimoto was thinking that far ahead when he wrote that part.
I could be TOTALLY wrong though, and if I am I'm sorry.
Here, I just found this answer. It said that Orochimaru didn't know that Minato was sealed when he tried to summon him.

He did have something off the fourths, are you forgetting he fought against the fourths son therefor he could have acquired his dna cells during that battle. Naruto. Being a Sanin he would know who Naruto was and who his father was. There for it would be easy for him to summon him.

It was the fourth hokage! :D remember Minato? he died the 4th hokage and naruto's dad, so the third took over again.
1st hokage died, second hokage in power,
second died, third in power, third retired, fourth in power, 4th died fighting and sealing kyuubi, third in power again. Welcome for the spoilers
Hew was, its the reanimation, so you can summon the dead, wven the sealed, as orochimaru always did experminests, he had 4th hokage's cells, which were required for the summoning. proof? he put the 4th okage cells in yamato.
