Good arch support, slip resistant soles. Something with padding as well.
Athletic shoes are generally pretty good.
There are what we used to call "duty shoes" or nurse shoes that are excellent for on your feet all day wear. Go to a better shoe store and ask for help. there are clearly more than one brand and everyones feet are different to what works for me may not work for you at all.
3 daughters and myself are all either in food service or medical care and we all have our favorites to wear; none are the same brand or type at all.

I agree with the answer above except for the gym/athletic shoes. Try looking online as well or go to Wal-Mart.

I wear Airwalks. They're skid-resistant and cheaper than Shoes for Crews, you can get them at Payless. Check with your employer too, they might have coupons for Payless, at least my employer does.
