Litter is fine, if it works. But the food? No way, it's really bottom of the barrel stuff and the money you save on food you will spend on vet bills. I am sure that you like to feed quality, wholesome foods to yourself and your family, and your cat will be no different. Nothing that you buy in the grocery store is really very wholesome for your cat either, but the pet store has many budget options that are pretty good for your cat, yet won't break the budget either. Take a look at Petsmart's Authority brand, or any of the Nutro or Max Cat brands.

The litter will be fine, but the cat food there is JUNK. No offence but so is the 9-lives and Friskies.

Kibble is not a natural thing for a cat to eat. Before 250 years ago, when there was no such thing as cat "kibble", there was this thing called meat that cats would hunt for.

Raw meat is a natural thing for cats to eat. It is what they were made to eat, their teeth are just ONE example of that! Cat food isn't really even good for cats. It has lots of things dumped into it that cats don't need. For the cheap foods, it's corn, wheat, soy, gluten, brewers rice, tomato pomace, etc., and for the expensive ones, it's apples, whole ground rice, blueberries, and things like that. All of that stuff is things that cats DON'T need.

As most people know, cats are carnivores. They can't hardly digest plant matter and end up pooping it out because their bodies can't use it.

I feed PMR (prey-model-raw) and my dogs and cat LOVE it and thrive on it! I would never feed them anything but this! I feed them 80% muscle meat, 10% organs, and 10% bones! They do great! Most of the meat I get is free too. I just got 70 lbs of beef from a dude off craigslist the other day! :) I feed my dogs and cat different varieties of meats and organs every once in a while. My vets have never seen healthier animals and he now recommends PMR to all of his customers.

There are a number of ways to save money on cat supplies. Consider changing your cats entirely to canned food. It seems more expensive up front, but they actually eat less because there is more nutrition to it. It will save you vet bills, as dry food causes problems in cats. And, there's less deposited in the litter box. Another thing to try is a wood pellet litter. Check your local feed store (like Tractor Supply) for horse bedding. It's a pelleted wood product like Feline Pine, but much less expensive in a 40 pound bag. Change your cats over slowly if they are used to clay or clumping. Sprinkle the pellets on top in greater and greater amounts, until you have converted them. Wood pellet litter only takes an inch or so in the bottom of the litter box, it expands.

as long as your satisfied with the odor control from the liter its fine to use and as long as your cat will eat the food its fine too. my cat has a sensitive stomach and can't hold down dollar tree food but i used to use litter from there and still buy her toys there if i see one she will like. i had a friend once that would mix their cat litter with a box of baking soda because it helped keep the smell down.

wow no offense but there is really nothing wrong with cat kibble good for you your a super natural person who feeds their cat raw meat 90% of humans are not going to go to that extreme. My 14 year old cat has never had raw meat she lives on meow mix kibble and friskies wet food once a day and the only time my vet has said anything about what to feed her was when we found out she had a sensitive stomach and it sure wasn't "hey give her some raw meat every day" it was "test out different brands till you find one that doesn't make her sick and then stick to that."

Litter fine. Food NO way. If you cannot afford a high quality food, then maybe you should rethink ownership. Dogs and cats should be fed decent and high quality food. Otherwise your pet will end up with more vet bills and health problems.
