Christians what are your opinions of Matthew 5:17-20?
Do not think I have come to loosen the Torah or the Prophets. I have not come to loosen but to fulfill them through proper meaning. For truly I say to you that until heaven and earth pass away not one Yodh or stroke will pass from Torah until everything happens. All who loosen, therefore, from one of these small commandments and teach thus to the sons of man, will be called little in the Kingdom of Heaven, but all who do and teach this will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds more than that of the scribes and the Pharisees, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven
Please don't say all things were done on the cross. The new Heaven and new Earth are not here yet.

This is one of my favorite passages, where Jesus clearly says the old law is still in effect, and Christians need to cite Paul overriding Jesus so they can eat lobster.

While you may not like the answer, it is that the fulfillment of the law was accomplished by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Notice that nowhere in his statement did Jesus say that the law would still in force until the new heaven and earth arrived. He said that it would stay in force until it was fulfilled.
If you look through the law you will find that it was a picture of who Jesus would be and what he would accomplish. He would be the sin offering, the Sabbath rest, the Passover lamb, and scapegoat that carries away sin, etc. Those things were accomplished at the cross.
Jesus himself stated their fulfillment from the cross. When he was hung there, his first statement was to quote Psalm 22:1 (My God, my God which have you forsaken me...) He then went on to fulfill over 20 events listed in that single chapter alone. His final words were the closing words of that same Psalms (Is is finished/done....) Jesus himself stated that his death was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophetic laws.

Christine says; 'Jesus was saying it was impossible for one particle of the Law not to take place. Whoever teaches God's law will be called 'great' in the Kingdom of the Heavens and anyone breaks the law they will be called 'least' in the Kingdom of the Heavens.' And if your righteousness is not better than the scribes and the pharisees, then you will not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.'

My opinion; I would disagree with you neighbor, for all things were accomplished at the cross. Even though they have not all come to literal fulfillment yet, from Christ's perspective, it's a done deal.
Everyone seems to miss the point of what Christ is saying. The "law" is not disappearing, it is in the process of being superseded by Christ himself. All the law in the universe will not help anyone, hence the comment about ones righteousness exceeding that of the Pharisees, it's not possible with law, ever. It will only become possible through Christ, in the very near future with respect to his giving them those comments.
Good question, thanks.

This is where Christians need to be creative when coming up with excuses to render these parts of the bible obsolete.

If it's from the Bible, it means what it says. A clearer translation exists. It can be seen and explained at the source given below:
