Coming out of the broom closet?

I am a witch. I don't care if you like it or not, so if you are interested in converting me to your religion you can stop right there and navigate to another page.

I have been a witch for almost ten years, I love my religion. I have been in the broom closet because I have family and in-laws who would probably not be okay with this (particularly the in-laws, Southern Baptists).

I don't like not being open about my religion because I adore it and the positive influence it has had on all aspects of my life. Now I have children and desperately want to share my religion with them. Not to force them to believe as I do, but because it is a large and important part of my life.

I am hoping that you all might share with me your worst-case scenarios. Do the benefits outweigh the costs?

My husbands family has little to do with us as it is. I don't know why, aside from the fact that my mother in law has legitimate mental health problems. My hope is that his family will treat my children better than they treat us; like they are part of the family. Would coming out of the broom closet jeopardize their chances at familial ties to a point that the value we would gain from being open would be negated?

I hope you are able to come out of the broom closet and be open about who you truly are, a Witch, which is an honorable, spiritual thing to be. I'm a Witch, non-Wiccan, and have been one for about 7 years now, but I never had to come out of the broom closet because I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and there are plenty of Witches here, as well as plenty of acceptance from non-Witches.

The one thing I have had to put up with is some friends and family scoffing at me, saying there is no such thing as Witches. I had one Christian neighbor give off definite fear and revulsion vibes, plus major disapproval, although she was too polite to say anything. But her aura she had was very dark when she saw me.

So I really haven't had to put up with much, and most people have either a neutral reaction, or they think its great and they ask me about it. Perhaps you will meet some open-minded people where you live, I hope you do.

I would cast a circle and put the question to the Universe, listen to that voice that will guide you to the best choice for your life.

    Good luck and Bright Blessings,

    Lady Morgana

when I got here out with my ideals - my mom flipped. She talked approximately as each and all of the kin and informed them i grew to become right into a Satanist (which i'm no longer, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that i'm acquaintances with many Satanists - they're cool). I saved training my faith. of direction i offered my books and approaches and saved them in my room, out of sight. I went public with my pagan ideals in college and at artwork. whilst my mom did no longer settle for it o.k., i found that many different persons did. My mom finally got here to settle for my ideals after she study some books I lent her. So popping out of the closet did create some calamity in my existence, yet i found that people who could no longer cope with it have been extra appropriate off being out of my existence besides, and that my mom accepts me for who i'm. i assume I have been given fortunate. I had acquaintances back then who have been kicked out of the dwelling house for training a pagan faith. one element you extremely desire to do is confirm you have a help team of people who settle for you as a Wiccan besides as some acquaintances of minority faith. That facilitates through fact I assure each and every physique of them would be attentive to precisely what you're dealing with. no longer purely that - yet once you do lose any acquaintances or have kin conflict, you do no longer desire to experience all on my own and such as you haven't any longer all of us to instruct to. sturdy success!
