jeremiah 15:19 (niv) meaning?

what does God mean when he says, "worthy words"? or perhaps a different translation would help i guess... i'm just wondering what makes words worthy to God. is it in the context of prayer or just everyday life? or something else?

Update:

but how are those word supposed to be worthy? what criteria would one's words have to meet to be considered that?

Isn't it strange that there was an atheist stalker trying to make a fool of you because of the way you answered a question earlier?

While I read his creepy little question, it occurred to me how frustrated you were as you spoke.

Your words were repetitive and full of angst.

I felt for you. I wanted to reach out and give you a shake and tell you that Jesus never bothered with atheists. He had enough trouble making disciples out of his disciples.

Your words are worthless if they are spent on people who get their jollies in belittling others (their biggest accomplishment). Stay silent. Only speak when you know your words will be heard, or speak to admonish them back under the rocks from where they crawled.

PS. Gather as much information as you can on the flood (see polystrates, half life of isotopes in granite, reptiles never stop growing, atmosphere like a hyperberic chamber, etc, etc) and go back to court. A hundred years ago some idiot won the right to teach lies to children based on what Darwin wrote and no one has challenged that antiquated judgment.

In prophetic, Jeremiah 15:19 contrast worthwhile and worthless parallelism 'wise versus fool'. In practical, 'worthy words' are `action speaks louder than words, or a picture speaks a thousand of words, or walk the talk`.

"And if you bring forth what is precious from valueless things, you will become my own mouth." - NWT

Precious words are respectful, honoring, and sincere. All were missing from the Israelites at the time in their worship of Jehovah God.

He was asking them to come back and correct their "hollow" worship. They were just going through the motions - and not giving "worthy words".

Even Jeremiah was being affected by the actions of the Israelites agains him. Verse 15 says that he was asking to not be taken away. Verse 18 - "Why has my pain become chronic?"

And then verse 20 - Jehovah says he will make him a "fortified copper wall", so that they would not drag him down with their dismissal of his words.

He is saying to say worthy, not worthless, words. In other words (no pun intended) He doesn't want words of praise with no meaning behind them, empty words. Jesus said the same thing about the Pharisees saying how they love to hear themselves praying, babbling on and on. Jesus said don't be like that. Say what you mean and feel.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

In another words Jehovah told to Jeremiah : “You come to me. And I pour up upon you spiritual light, and walked you has sinned. Alas. But if you repent, and repent by dividing precious from vile in your heart- you will be as my Mouth or spokesman”

Gods light kill every evil or likenes of evil, like immunity. Yes walking in light is hard, then walking in the world. If man come to Gods organization, he go up on high mountain of worship, and possible purification like in Dan 11:35.

The NIV is a notoriously bad translation. It chooses to interpret for you instead of translate. Thus the Holy Spirit is hindered.

19 Therefore this is what the LORD says: "If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

Your question is misguided. you ask about worthy words without regarding the context.

Jeremiah had just complained about the suffering he was enduring for the sake of God and his calling as a prophet of God. He rejoiced in God's word but he repines at the cost and the suffering. But he then goes too far. He asks, wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

    That is way too far.

So God reproves him and calls him to repent of that attitude and those words. He must take the precious from the vile and those words were vile. If he speaks only right things than God will speak through him. As to the people that he is a prophet to, they must turn to him and be changed to the spiritual, he must not turn to them or be like them, which is what he was being by those words.

The words he spoke were not of faith and were from the flesh. But God gave him words that were faith - hearing God's word - and were from the Spirit.

The vile is from the flesh, natural; the precious is from the Spirit of God.

You want the precious? worthy words?

Christ has declared to you the way :

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Your cross, accepted and taken up, will cut off and put to death the flesh to enable to live by the Spirit.

This is not a popular truth and most of modern Christianity wants Christ without their cross.

There are two sources of life, the flesh or the Spirit. The flesh is totally unacceptable to God and vile, it must be put to death and destroyed. We are called to live anew by the Spirit of God and walk after Him. Thus all will be a new creation - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

That does not mean we can hang new 'Christian' labels on the old life, as so many suppose. It means a totally new life and source of life which only your cross taken up can enable. God cannot share His life or glory with the flesh life or any other.

So we are to live by Christ's life and not our life. Only Christ is pleasing to Him.

If you like, Jeremiah illustrates the cross in his life. But he found it heavy and went too far in his speaking against God. As a prophet and an example to others this must be reproved.

That is the purpose of the cross, death to self and it is painful. A quick death would destroy but it is a slow death to enable the life of the Spirit, and for Christ to be formed inwardly.

An example would be quoting scripture with the desire to gain understanding, unite brethren, admonish, correct, etc. Worthless would be along the lines of those who reject it. Paul said you have considered yourself unworthy to receive eternal life.

Those who oppose us for no reason. unworthy. shake dust from.feet and move on.
