The rot in social services began when Thatcher cut funding. She closed children's homes like mine and opened prisons instead. It is hard to provide a service when the funding is cut, there is no support, the kids challenge, the parents complain. I am not excusing the Rochdale workers, they should have got out like I did when the job became impossible, so they must carry the blame but don't forget, the country voted for tax cuts year after year and the cuts have made the gaps that the children were allowed to fall through.
