Why are you all making the gun debate about "conservative" and "liberal" politics?

There should be nothing political about it. It's part of our bill of RIGHTS and should be upheld to the context of the document, which clearly calls for sufficient and adequate weaponry to be on par with modern militaries. If you disagree with that, then your quarrel is with the CONSTITUTION ITSELF, so address that. Stop trying to put duct-tape gun bans that limit the provisions of the document and start petitioning for a NEW AMENDMENT to REVISE THE DOCUMENT. It has nothing to do with right wing or left wing, it's the constitution and the foundation of the security of our United States. It's about our RIGHTS.

Update:

@ The Angry Man: I am definitely NOT a conservative. I support the right for homosexuals to marry just like anybody else, as a matter of equality. I think we need to take our military, ALL of it, the HELL out of everybody else's country. That includes all the bases we have in Asia, Europe, and EVERYwhere. I also think we need to quit sailing MEUs around the globe trying to be the world police. And to what you said about "government owned militia", there is no such thing. A militia by definition is an unconventional armed force made up of ordinary citizens, NOT uniformed military. The idea is to have damn near EVERYbody armed so that any potential enemy, foreign OR domestic (this means the federal government) would not be able to just have their way with American citizens. Think about it, they already have so much weaponry that the people don't. This bill that that dumba$$ Feinstein is tryin to pass would disarm Americans to the point that NOBODY would ever have to tak

Liberal -- Wants to do away with the constitution

Conservative -- Wants to follow the constitution

Now do you understand why its a "conservative" vs. "liberal" issue?

So...you are a confused conservative. A liberal would have said that the 2nd Amendment gives only government controlled militias the right to have firearms, not private citizens. A liberal would also have said that the 2nd Amendment pertains only to weapons that the authors knew about at the time, such as black powder muskets. A liberal would also have said that the president can take away our "privilege" to own a firearm with an executive order. You see now why it is an issue of conservative v. liberal? A true conservative would never have suggested a petition to change the 2nd Amendment, though; hence the "Confused conservative" title.

EDIT: I didn't say "government owned militias", I said government controlled. All the liberal statements I've been reading on dozens of articles circulate around the "well regulated militia" wording in the 2nd Amendment and of course, liberals think regulated means government controlled. I've even heard the argument that the National Guard is that militia, laughable, I know. Furthermore, a true conservative does not want our military all over the world, policing every other nation. They want our military at home for defensive and retaliatory actions and in the nations of our allies for the same reasons. As far as gay marriage goes, supporting it does not mean you're not conservative, it simply means that you're not extremist in your views as most conservatives just want to be left alone and, by the same token, must leave others alone so long as their actions do not infringe upon anther'ss of another. I am in total agreement with you in regards to Feinstein.

You are right about the fact that this is not a partisan issue. There are many Liberal gun owners and many Conservatives that do not own guns. However the Bill of Rights is not absolute. The first amendment has restrictions, and so can the second. The Supreme Court has ruled on this issue and Congress can place restrictions on guns.

All of that is correct. But with only a few exceptions, those who are trying to take away our Second Amendment rights are liberal politicians. Disregarding the Constitution is what they do best.

This happens because Leftists do not believe in what the Constitution says. They think if they win a election they change the Constitution to the Communist Manifesto.

Because some view it as "outdated" and should be edited to limit people to pistols and 10 round magazines and others that understand should a government, be it domestic or foreign, attack us we have the right to defend ourselves

I agree. It's not like in the First Ammmendmant we can just pick and chose what religions can be accepted . It should be the Same way with guns.

As a liberal, the liberal position is supportive of gun rights because the right of the people to bear arms is a natural right. The conservative position is supportive of gun rights because it's tradition.

Gun control is the authoritarian position.
